Job Description:

Zachry Group is currently accepting applications for Architect I to work in the Downers Grove, IL Design Center. The candidate should enjoy working in the industrial sector of architecture.

The candidate shall be responsible for completing project specific objectives, on time and under the direction of a Sr. Design Architect. The candidate shall perform a variety of architectural and building-related duties from the research and planning stages through construction support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform routine and unique architectural assignments requiring the application of available techniques, procedures, and criteria for the assigned phases of a project.
  • Participate in analyses that are required to formulate and determine design criteria for buildings, structures, systems, materials, and related components.
  • Assist in the preparation of architectural, engineering and construction drawings, specifications, material take-offs, building code studies, and cost estimates.
  • Participate in studies of construction techniques and economic feasibility studies, such as the provision of ‘value engineering’ tasks. Support risk analysis studies.
  • Review client requests for architectural change orders and recommend action to supervisor. Assess and respond to vendor submittals and field information requests.
  • Registration as a Licensed Architect or in the process of working toward such through the NCARB intern development and registration by examination programs.
Job Requirements:


ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of model codes, including building codes, fire codes, energy codes, accessibility codes, NFPA codes, and those of standard testing agencies such as UL.
  • Exposure to and general understanding of architectural building elements and design techniques related to the industrial, chemical, food, and power fields.
  • Reasonable presentation skills with the capability of transferring ideas and expressions to proposals, studies, schematic, conceptual, and construction drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of computer-aided drawing systems, and the ability to successfully interact with and direct those utilizing CADD systems on a regular basis.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to facilitate interaction with Clients, internal management, and discipline counterparts.
  • Ability to independently organize and prioritize work assignments and coordinate a variety of tasks. Flexibility to revise focus as needed to meet deadlines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, video chat, and software systems. Position will include visits to industrial facilities and construction sites, requiring mobility at grade and at heights. This will require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to; a hardhat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs or earmuffs, masks and respirators, safety gloves, vests, and steel-toed work boots.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Employee will work in multiple environments, primarily in the Downers Grove office, but could include seconded arrangements at Client sites for short durations. Site visits, particularly those that are active construction sites, may have moderate to high noise levels. Job sites will have light to heavy vehicles and equipment, material movement, communication equipment, work tools, construction personnel, and site-specific bells, whistles, and alarms.
