YWCA Tri County Area is Hiring an ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher Near Pottstown, PA

Job Title: English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) Academic Coach

Compensation: $19.00/hourly

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Part-time, 7 hours/week

Shift: Monday & Tuesday, 6:00PM-8:30PM 2 hrs of planning time

Supervisor: Sr. Director of Adult Education

Location: Pottstown, PA

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

YWCA Tri-County Area (YW3CA) provides English classes to adults whose first language is not English and want to learn English literacy skills so that they can get a job, navigate through the community, or continue their education. The ideal ESL Academic Coach should possess the following:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree required (BA or BS minimum)
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish a plus
  • Experience working with adults in education or related fields
  • Have previous experience teaching ESL and a sincere interest in working with individuals from other cultures, languages, and countries
  • Must be able to create a positive learning environment for adult learners
  • Believe in the value of every individual and can help others believe in themselves
  • A strong commitment to serve the local community and projects attitude of respect, empathy, and cultural sensitivity to all
  • Attends to detail and accuracy and able to multi-task
  • Strong organization skills and good time management
  • Comfortable with technology (laptops, Smart Board, etc.) including strong computer literacy skills
  • Reliable, good problem solver, able to work independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Able to accept guidance and feedback and support teamwork and efforts
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Job Responsibilities:

YWCA is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor whose primary responsibilities are:

  • Teach the Beginner Level class of ESL students
  • Will help students also develop their digital literacy skills
  • Will implement supplemental activities to reinforce learning
  • Will avoid lecture-style teaching and engage the students in conversation, activities, and practice to advance their skills learned
  • Support ESL learners in listening, speaking, writing, and reading the English language
  • Engages students in communication activities that help further their skills on the job and within the community
  • Maintain documentation of students served and student progress
  • Follow all guidelines as required by YWCA and the web-based program developer.
  • Work closely with other team members in Pottstown and Norristown
  • Participate in agency and state professional development training
