General Description

1. Provides safety planning, case management and advocacy services to victims of domestic violence;
receives referrals from police calls in response to high lethality domestic violence victims; screening
victims for lethality indicators and connect victim with resources; helps ensure that data is tracked from
lethality assessments. Facilitates support groups and provides case management. Serves as liaison
between law enforcement officers and victims. Assists victims in completing paperwork for civil protective
orders and provides support during court hearings.

2. Reporting Relationship
The Domestic Violence Advocate - Lethality Prevention reports to the Vice President of Programs &
Services.

3. Supervises
The Domestic Violence Advocate - Lethality Prevention has no supervisory responsibilities

4. Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Assists law enforcement personnel with domestic violence complaint calls; assists in screening victims for lethality indicators, takes referrals from law enforcement after lethality screenings.
  • Ensures data is being collected for State reporting on St. Joseph County Lethality Assessments.
  • Facilitates and coordinates High Risk Team meetings, including documentation preparation.
  • Facilitates domestic violence support groups and other supportive groups.
  • Provides case management to assigned clients individually, exercising a considerable degree of professional judgment, in consultation with other staff, participates in development of client service plans, prepares and maintains current records on assigned cases according to program policies and procedures, including intake, progress notes, and other appropriate documentation.
  • Maintains familiarity with local housing and employment opportunities, assists clients in developing job opportunities, preparing for interviews, with transportation to appointments, and with finding suitable housing.
  • Identifies agency resources for client needs, maintains liaison with community agencies, including law enforcement system, frequently needed by clients, maintains current information on agency.

  • Participates in multi-disciplinary team staffing, team meetings, case consulting, community activities and organizations; prepares and delivers appropriate lectures to the public as requested by the

  • Participates in planning and evaluation session for continued growth of the program; works as part of a team in assuring quality delivery of services.
  • Under supervisor's direction, provides consultation and education services to community agencies, groups, and individuals.
  • Remains current concerning new trends in domestic violence services.
  • Ensures appropriate and accurate documentation regarding client interactions, in compliance with agency and grant standards.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Experience:

Position Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in psychology, sociology or related field
  • 1-3 years experience in related field or other appropriate combination of education and experience
  • Commitment to end domestic violence
  • Ability to create and maintain positive working relationships
  • Crisis intervention experience
  • Optimistic, creative, and positive energy
  • CPR certified by end of 1st 90 days
