Work Status Details: REGULAR FULL TIME | 80.00 Hours Every Two Weeks
Pay Rate Type: Hourly

Listed is the base hiring salary range offered for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to skills and experience. The salary range listed is just one component of the total rewards/compensation package offered to candidates.

Summary:

The Pulmonary Diagnostic Specialist assumes ongoing responsibilities for the coordination of diagnostic and blood, gas, laboratory point of care testing. The Specialist is responsible to assure the various quality control and quality assurance functions are carried out. This individual is responsible for blood gas laboratory safety requirements and adheres to state and federal rules and regulations. The Pulmonary Specialist ensures compliance with federal, state and local agencies, and performs clinical and related duties as required. 

Responsibilities:

Analyzes Point of Care needs, studies new products, equipment, techniques, and services. Evaluates new testing/ equipment to be used for ancillary testing; Assists in system maintenance, billing and security for database files. Coordinates testing and software upgrades, researches, evaluate, and recommends purchases. Assists in system security and host/client permissions, and serves as a resource for Point of Care blood gas computer issues. Maintains project status and communicates with clients.

Performs duties of Blood Gas Laboratory Safety Officer. Assures that the Cardiopulmonary Blood Gas Lab is at or above CAP safety standards and performs annual safety and chemical hygiene review and report. Works with the Hospital Safety Officer to assure overall compliance, works with Respiratory Care Coordinator/ UBE to assure all staff are up to date with all required safety related training.

Participates in assigned functional and cross-functional relationships through effective communication, participation in meetings, collaborative education, and ongoing daily interactions. Serves as technical resource to physicians and staff. Directs resolution of technical issues related to results and/or instruments and provides training to staff as needed.

Maintains ancillary testing standards, regulations, and quality. Addresses standards and regulations with CLIA, CAP, and CMS to ensure compliance. Reviews Preventative Maintenance records and maintains the records according to standard. Assists in coaching and repair as needed and monitor's QA/QC activities within the Point of Care responsibilities. Assists in training personnel in departmental procedures, policy and safety, and follows their progress assuring annual competencies are completed.

Provides direction and input on use/allocation of resources to assure quality outcomes. Performs Respiratory Care clinical duties as required and insures adequate reagents/supplies. Participates in budget development and effective use of personnel, services, space, supplies and equipment.

Minimum Requirement:

  • BACHELOR'S DEGREE
  • ADVANCED CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT (ACLS)
  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS)
  • PEDIATRIC ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT (PALS)
  • REGISTERED RESPIRATORY THERAPIST (RRT)
