Migrant Recruiter
Purpose Statement
The job of Migrant Recruiter is done for the purpose/s of providing support to Migrant families in their academic and non-academic areas so that our students can achieve success both in and out of school.
This job reports to Director, Federal ProgramsEssential Functions
  • Recruits potential migrant families at school sites, work places and their homes.
  • Interviews parents while completing mandated Certificate of Eligibility Federal Records.
  • Acts as a liaison between school district and parents/students for the purpose of facilitating access to resources.
  • Assists assigned administrators in developing program resources for the purpose of fostering community resources and developing reference lists of available community and migrant program resources.
  • Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g. school staff, parents, students, principal, counselors, mentors, nurses, CPS, law enforcement, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs for migrant students and families.
  • Conducts home visits for the purpose of assessing family needs.
  • Conducts home visits/work place (collers, fields, packing sheds) for the purpose of qualifying migrant families into the district migrant program and deliver the necessary materials.
  • Coordinates and assists with assigned migrant projects and/or activities (e.g. presentations, parent nights, volunteers, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects and/or activities and/or directing services in a timely manner for migrant families.
  • Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records (e.g. daily log of activities, program participation, progress, referrals, etc.) for the purpose of providing required information and/or documentation for migrant families.
  • Orients students, families and volunteers for the purpose of establishing familiarity with migrant program, services, and required processes.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees (e.g. mediations, truancy program, parent meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Attends department meetings/trainings facilitated by district or Arizona Department of Education, migrant workshiops, parent meetings, for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform mandated state and federal program functions.
  • Prepares a variety of documents, reports and written materials (e.g. reports, memos, letters, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to migrant students, parents, and/or staff.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required for the migrant program.
  • Translates verbal and written communication(s) (e.g. migrant documents, IEPs, conferences, etc.) for the purpose of assisting migrant students, teachers and parents in communicating.
Other Functions
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; stages of child development; community resources available to students; migrant families; federal and state education programs.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups in both English and Spanish; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; and working with detailed information.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget. utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 50% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a clean atmosphere.
Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
Education High school diploma or equivalent.
