Location: Woodland Community College - Woodland, CA
Job Description:
Woodland Community College is located in the heart of Yolo County about 15 miles northwest of Sacramento. With a rural service area including centers in Williams and Clear Lake, the college is surrounded with rich agricultural farmland and is one the largest crop production areas in the state. The area is an excellent choice for quality of life with proximity to the Sierra Nevada for outdoor recreation, a burgeoning farm to fork movement, and access to the metropolitan areas of Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area. Woodland Community College is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).
Woodland Community College seeks a strong, well rounded Culinary Arts educator who has demonstrated experience or potential to be an excellent teacher at a community college, and who can provide leadership or contribute positively in areas such as: keeping course offerings up-to date and relevant; developing the Culinary Arts curriculum (including baking and pastry, food service hospitality and restaurant operations); staying abreast with and communicating the current trends in the culinary and hospitality industry; collaborating with area high schools; and maintaining relations with area businesses, business organizations, and workforce development initiatives such as our local CTE advisory boards. This position is grant-funded, and continuation is dependent on the availability of funds.
Essential Duties Summary:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The successful candidate will be expected to teach a wide range of culinary arts courses and maintain current knowledge in the subject matter and effective teaching/learning strategies. The successful applicant will provide instruction in accordance.with course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and Governing Board policies; evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters, develop and assess student !earning outcomes, and perform other instructional related duties as assigned. The successful applicant will also be expected to develop, revise curriculum, assemble and manage an industry advisory committee. Evening, weekend, distance education, and off-campus instruction may be part of the contract. This position would require faculty to work across multiple disciplines (e.g., agriculture, Ethnic Studies, business etc) and work with faculty across the district. The college offers courses in online, hybrid, and point to point interactive modalities.
REQUIRED DUTIES:
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Provide effective instruction, work collaboratively to develop, and maintain curriculum with faculty and industry partners, participate in professional development, and participate in college governance.
Required Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications for Culinary instructors at California Community Colleges with:
  • a Bachelors degree AND two years of full-time {or part-time equivalent) related experience;
  • OR an Associates degree AND six years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) related experience;
  • OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructors Credential in Foods, Food Services or related technologies or equivalent.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE
Professional and/or community college culinary arts teaching experience of three years or full-time restaurant and/or hospitality experience.
Ability to organize, teach, and supervise students in operating a full-service restaurant.
Preference may be given to applicants with experience convening industry advisory groups, working with K-12 districts, and other college initiatives.
Preference may be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to practices of seasonality and sustainability in the professional food industry.
KNOWLEDGE
Familiarity with the local food industry, including current and changing trends. Bilingual and/or bi-cultural in English/Spanish.
Ability to remain standing for extended periods of time; safely lift and carry 50 lbs.; use fingers and hands to feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, taste and smell.
Preference may be given to applicants with Food Safety Manager Certification from an accredited organization, such as the SERV Safe Certification from the Nationa1. Restaurant Association.
Preference may be given to applicants with expertise in chairing a department and the use of computer applications in managing a restaurant.
COLLABORATION
Preference may be given to applicants with membership in professional organizations such as the American Culinary Federation
Preference may be given to applicants with excellent collaboration skills working with department faculty, industry groups, advisory boards, and local or regional employers.
Physical Demands:
Range/Step: Class 2, Step 1 - Class 6, Step 10
Salary Range: $61,595 - $95,002/YR.

Additional benefits include contributions to the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS), 457/403b options, 10 sick days and a 178 day contract.
