Job Type: Per Diem

The Social Service Assistant will help residents and patients develop more effective coping and problem• solving skills and identify useful available resources. The Social Service Assistant will assist residents/patients in coping with the stresses of daily life, including stress associated with illness, loss of abilities, lifestyle changes (such as living in the communal environment of a nursing home), death of a spouse and significant others, separation from

spouse or loved one, feelings of loneliness, depression, anxiety, adjustments to aging and conflicts in their social relationships with others.

Must have a bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or equivalent professional experience. Previous experience in medical social work preferred. State of Maine license to practice Social Work at the LSW level required. The ability to maintain a positive empathetic attitude of assistance toward residents, families, other staff members and community agencies. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Knowledge of, and adherence to the National Association of Social Workers code of ethics concerning professional conduct.
