ABOUT THE FUND DEVELOPMENT TEAM: YouthCare’s Fund Development Department team is dedicated to building relationships between YouthCare, and its supporters committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness. We are creative, resourceful, and enthusiastic about identifying personalized and meaningful ways to inspire our community to be part of the great work we do. POSITION SUMMARY: We are looking for a builder. YouthCare has an opportunity for the right individual to build a mid-level giving program from our existing donor base and support a key function in our relationship-based philanthropy strategy. Under the supervision of the Chief Development Officer, the Development Manager of Mid-Level Giving will build and sustain our mid-level giving program. Responsibilities include the creation and implementation of a robust mid-level giving program including cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies and the qualification of mid-level donors for building their portfolio, as well as disqualification from mid-level back to annual giving. This position also will create opportunities for deeper relationship-based philanthropy with donors including the creation of a giving society and segment specific events. This position requires collaboration with other staff across the Development team and organization, motivating and supporting peers while holding responsibility for successful mid-level giving outcomes.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for soliciting gifts of $1,000 from individual donors.
  • Meet fundraising goals.
  • Lead key development strategy and functions within the department related to mid-level giving cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. 
  • Responsible for the creation of annual revenue goals for mid-level giving based on historical data and insights and for monitoring performance against the goals. 
  • Develop YouthCare’s mid-level fundraising program from strategy development through execution and monitoring of performance to grow the base of support for the organization.
  • Conducts research to identify prospective mid-level donors and their giving potential.
  • Manages a portfolio of prospective and current donors by participating in all aspects of moves management towards actualization of the lifetime value of a donor relationship in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Crafts mailings and other material to educate and cultivate mid-level donors of ways to support YouthCare.
  • Participates in fundraising meetings to ensure communication between mid-level and annual giving and major gifts.
  • Works closely with annual giving and major giving to flag mid-level prospects. Monitors all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations.
  • Identify and develop engagement and stewardship channels for donors including, but not limited to, giving societies, alumni affiliation groups and workplace engagement.
  • Responsible for working with Marketing and Communications team to coordinate the messaging and communication strategy for, and execution of, mid-level giving campaigns. 
  • Participates as a member of the Development team on the creation of work plans and establishing work priorities. Identifies ways to make work operations more effective and efficient on an ongoing basis. 
  • Assists Board members with the direct solicitation of mid-level donors.
  • Records and maintains all donor notes, proposals, and actions in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Develops, manages, and maintains a budget for mid-level giving.
  • Foster an atmosphere of open communication that builds trust across the organization. Promote communications between Development and other units/programs within the organization, forging partnerships across traditional department boundaries.
  • Proven relationship building and interpersonal skills, often through phone relationships.
  • Experience and enthusiasm working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working with high volume; ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while meeting aggressive deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as a team member.
  • Manages or participates as project team member for special projects as needed.
  • Ensure you and your team are able to reliably attend and contribute to training and development as needed for the role and Agency such as program requirements, DEI&J, supervision, committee work, and others as identified. This includes confirmation of registration, ensuring attendance, and covering shifts.
  • Attend and assist your team members with contributing to our DEI&J culture by creating at least one SMART Goal related to DEI&J within their control to deliver.
  • Lead at least one check-in each month with each team member to review SMART Goals, Values, and DEI&J commitments to be set up for success at the mid-year performance review. Additionally, recognize and provide positive feedback for all accomplishments.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Development Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS –

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of advanced development techniques with emphasis on mid-level donors.
  • Skill in researching prospective donors and assessing giving ability.
  • Skill in managing multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Skill in communicating, both orally and in writing, with diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability and willingness to engage donors over the phone and in person.
  • Ability to prepare sophisticated, grammatically correct written documents.
  • Ability to organize relatively sophisticated donor cultivation and recognition events.
  • Ability to attend evening events. 
  • Ability and willingness to deliver public presentations.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Experience and credentials must comply with program contractual requirements, including but not limited to the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) background clearance process and must be at least 21 years of age. DCYF Clearance must be maintained for entirety of employment when working with under-18 clients.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience building a successful individual giving program.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work-related experience of four years of mid-level or annual giving fundraising, sales, or direct marketing experience. 
  • Successful experience in identifying cultivation and stewardship strategies with demonstrated ability to engage, inform and interact with donors via in person, phone, and email.
  • High functioning team player that is skilled at bringing together different teams of people from various departments to collaborate on projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to successfully manage complex programs in dynamic settings.
  • Ability to promote the organization’s fundraising and strategic priorities by developing excellent working relationships both inside and outside the organization.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, results oriented environment.
  • Strong project management skills. 
  • Familiarity with relational database software, preferably Raiser’s Edge

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

  • Must be able to provide I-9 supporting documentation for employment.
  • Ability to provide a negative TB Test (results must be within one year of hire date).
  • Employees who drive YouthCare vehicles as a requirement for their position, must be at least 21 years of old, possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License, meet minimum safe driver criteria established by the agency and our insurance company which includes completion of Defensive Driving and 15-passenger Van trainings. Drivers under the age of 25 must have been licensed for at least 3 years and those operating vehicles with a capacity of 15 or more passengers must be at least 25 years old.
  • Successful completion of pre-service training courses as required by contracting agencies. Training such as CPR & First Aid (Adult/Child), Bloodborne Pathogens, and Behavior Management. 
  • Computer software skills including Windows, Microsoft outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel.

  • Ability to accurately maintain and produce files, records, logs and reports in English.
  • May be required to assume responsibilities or duties within the agency not specifically delineated in this job description for short periods of time or on an infrequent basis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform a range of physical motions, exerting up to 50 pounds. Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; running for brief periods of time; and go up and down stairs.
