The Downtown Family YMCA opened its doors in 1964 and has since been a landmark in the Downtown Boise area. The facility has a full court basketball gym, a large cardio fitness center, multiple strength training systems and rooms, racquetball courts, a climbing wall, five fitness studios, three swimming pools, and multiple youth programming areas.

The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for creating a safe, friendly, and helpful atmosphere for members participating in group exercise classes.

Responsibilities:

• Develop intentional relationships and, using the Y voice attributes, create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants that helps them meet the two Cause Measurement goals for adults.
• Use the class platform to educate and inform participants about the Y Cause and other Y program offerings.
• Conduct class in a quality, fun, and safe manner that results in increased attendance. Follow fitness trends and utilize prescribed formats when applicable. Actively identify participants who need additional support, such as new members, health seekers, and participants with diverse abilities.
• Monitor and ensure the safety of all participants.
• Provide excellent delivery of land group exercise instruction to all members.
• Engage members to deepen their relationships in the Y cause.
• Monitor and ensure safety of participants, staff and volunteers in the land group exercise class.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge in group exercise instruction preferred.
• Must be able to engage others in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
• Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations.
• Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Schedule:

This is a part time position averaging 1-3 hours weekly. Schedule requirements are 8:00am Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. We are specifically hiring for Wednesday, but it is essential to have ability to cover other days occasionally. We have many older adult class subbing opportunities, all are weekdays, most before noon with occasional mid-day classes.
