Summary Young Living is looking for an experienced, hardworking, and driven team member. This position is involved with providing daily care for the horses/animals including but not limited to identifying/treating health needs, feeding, grooming, saddling, harnessing, riding, driving, farrier work, operating heavy equipment, and cleaning/repairs to stalls, tack, barn areas, turnout lots, and equipment. This position will also involve working in front of the public including but not limited to on site events and off site events. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Daily horse handling and care that includes but not limited to basic identifying health issues, feeding, grooming, saddling, harnessing, cleaning/maintaining/repairing of facilities, operating/maintaining/repairing heavy equipment and participates in public events Identify basic health issues including but not limited to wounds (cuts, scrapes, punctures, etc.); illness (colic, founder, etc.); lameness and reports to manager Feeding horses according to proper portions contained in manual and/or manager’s direction, identifying and reporting nutritional needs Basic cleaning and repairs to stalls, in and around barn areas, work areas such as cross ties, hitch/rail areas, wash racks, grain areas, designated manure pits, and turnout areas Basic cleaning/maintaining/oiling/repairing of tack and equipment, and report issues to manager Basic repairs to fences, feeders, waters, wagons, equipment and facilities Operates heavy equipment such as tractors, forklifts, wagons, and horse-drawn equipment Participates in events/parades/competitions with team as necessary, including preparation activities Husbandry Understand and follow all safety guidelines and emergency procedures as described in wrangler manual and procedures for working around horses, riding, driving, maintaining barn, and participating in any equine programming Competencies Decisive Decision-Making Time Management Horsemanship Encouraging and Positive Attitude Able to Work In Team and Independent Settings Training and Development Training in Horsemanship Development in Horsemanship Forklift/Telahandler Certification Lift Certification Other Career Applicable Certifications Other Career Applicable Association Membership Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic knowledge of horsemanship Basic knowledge of barn care and equipment operation Ability to work as a team Ability to meet all physical demands and responsibilities Supervisory Responsibility This position does not supervise employees. Work Environment The individual must be able to tolerate the scent of essential oils worn or diffused. Employee will be working in a farm environment and in colder temperatures, needing to wear warm clothing and applicable OSHA safety gear. Employee is required to understand proper safety procedures before operating any equipment. Employee may be required to be certified to use equipment. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Employee is frequently required to be outdoors working with horse and animals. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Employee is occasionally required to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to tolerate working with hay for up to three to four hours daily. Must be able to ride six or more hours a day (Friesian). Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This position requires the incumbent to be physically present at the assigned worksite. This is a variable hour part time position, meaning no regular schedule. Shifts will be assigned in advance by the manager. Rotational evening, weekend and travel work are required as job duties demand and as assigned by manager. Required Education and Experience Horse Experience- 3 to 12 Months Basic sense of horse care NOTE: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
