York School District 1 is Hiring an AGRICULTURE TEACHER Near York, SC

Job Goal

Theagricultural education instructor is employed by the local school district toteach agricultural education courses offered by the local district and approvedby the South Carolina Department of Career and Technology Education and theState Department of Education. The agricultural education instructor is toassist and supervise all students in developing a Supervised AgriculturalExperience (SAE). In addition, the agricultural education instructor will serveas advisor of the local FFA chapter and promote FFA activities as an integralpart of the agricultural education experience. Finally, the agriculturaleducation instructor is encouraged to promote and offer adult education to thecommunity.

Thefollowing is a general job description and listing of responsibilities of asecondary agriculture instructor. It is not an all-inclusive list but doesinclude general responsibilities of most high school agricultureteachers.

 

ClassroomInstruction

·Teachlocal day agricultureclasses

·Prepareand evaluate teaching schedule, curriculum, and teachingcalendars

·Conductfield trips, both in and out ofdistrict

·Securematerials for resale to students (e.g. welding metal, wood,etc.)

·Prepareteaching plans, demonstration plans, and teaching materials for all classes

SupervisedAgricultural Experience Program(SAE)

·Visitstudents’ SAE projects once per semester and at least once during the summer,or a minimum of 180 visits peryear.

·Assiststudents in keeping SAErecords

·Assiststudents in exhibiting livestock, crops and agricultural mechanics projects atfairs and shows

 

FFA 

·Serveas advisor for the FFAchapter

·AssiststudentsincoordinatingFFAactivitiesatthelocal,area,district,stateandnationallevels

·Prepareand train FFA and agriculture contest teams andentries

·Assiststudents in preparing applications for proficiency awards, state and AmericanDegrees, etc.

·Assiststudents in conducting a public relations program for the local FFA chapter andagriculture department.

 

Other

·Teachertopics and/or in-depth adult eveningclasses

·Adviseand coordinate the Young Farmers chapters andactivities

·Adviseand coordinate the local FFA Alumnichapter

·Prepareand track the budget for the agriculture program eachyear.

·Coordinate,maintain inventories, and keep record of the agriculture resale accounts forclassroom and shopsupplies

·Purchasesupplies and equipment for the classroom, office and shopfacilities

·Inventorythe supplies and equipment of the agricultureprogram

·Cooperatein maintaining, planning, and improvingthe physicalfacilities

·Completeand file required reports with the Department of Elementary and SecondaryEducation

 Performance Responsibilities

·Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locationsand at the times designated.

·Plans a program of study that meets the individualneeds, interests, and abilities of the students.

·Creates a classroom environment that is conducive tolearning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

·Prepares for classes assigned, and shows writtenevidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.

·Encourages students to set and maintain standards ofclassroom behavior.

·Guides the learning process toward the achievement ofcurriculum goals in harmony with the district goals and establishes clear objectivesfor all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectivesto students.

·Employs a variety of instructional techniques andinstructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the locationprovided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groupsinvolved.

·Strives to implement by instruction and action thedistrict's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

·Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regularbasis and provides progress reports as required.

·Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on aregular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.

·Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions toprotect student, equipment, materials, and facilities.

·Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records asrequired by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.

·Assists the administration in implementing all policiesand rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, developsreasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order inthe classroom in a fair and just manner.

·Makes provisions for being available to students andparents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day whenrequired or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

·Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacheraide(s) when assigned and evaluates their job performance; works cooperativelywith department heads if applicable.

·Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

·Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees asrequired.

Termsof Employment:

 190days per school year; salary and work year to be established by the Board
