Description

Assists the Director with the administrative and supervisory work of the departmental divisions in Community Services as well as oversight of a number of agencies who are responsible for the delivery of human services to York County citizens. Also, responsible for overseeing the development, management, and operations of the Divisions of Children and Family Services and Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization. Performs planning, administrative, and supervisory work in administering comprehensive programs for the County, including the management and control of all assigned properties. Assist in developing and administering the operating and capital improvement budgets. In the absence of the Director, represents Community Services in carrying out the mission of the department and County.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in public administration, government, parks, recreation, human services, or a closely related field, and 6 to 9 years of experience in increasingly responsible management positions preferably in the public sector.
A typical way to qualify is:
High School Diploma and 16 to 19 years in increasingly responsible management positions preferably in the public sector,
ORan Associate's degree in public administration, government, parks, recreation, human services, or a closely related field and 8 to 11 years in increasingly responsible management positions preferably in the public sector,
ORan Bachelor's degree in public administration, government, parks, recreation, human services, or a closely related field and 14 to 17 years in increasingly responsible management positions preferably in the public sector.

Supplemental Information

Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Requires an acceptable background check.

Physical Demands

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including common office equipment such as typewriters, copiers, calculators, dictaphone machines, cameras, slide projectors, overhead projectors, etc. There is some walking and standing when working events or visiting facilities. Most of the work is performed sitting at a desk or in front of a computer.
