POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists the Camp Director with the successful operation of the resident camp program. Plans, organizes, and implements activities, supervises camp counselors, performs administrative tasks, and ensures the safety of campers.
GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a residential position where food and lodging are provided during hours of work. The work week follows the camper session which begins each Sunday and ends on Friday with a 24 hour break in-between. Dates of employment include a week of training starting June 23, 2024, 7 weeks of program, and concludes on August 17, 2024.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Plans and implements camp activities as per the program design.
2. Manages the staff schedule to ensure the staff to child ratio is met.
3. Provides daily oversight and leadership of camp operations. Identifies and solves problems, implements appropriate discipline techniques, and enforces policies and procedures.
4. Plans and facilitates components of the pre-camp staff training program.
5. Ensures effective communication between staff and parents of campers.
6. Develops and maintains positive, open communication between campers and camp staff.
7. Implements and maintains work rules and regulations as required by YMCA Buffalo Niagara and the NYS Health Department.
8. Pursues new and innovative program initiatives.
9. Participates with campers when needed in the pool during swim lessons and free swim.
10. Performs the administrative functions of attendance, camper development, program, and evaluation.
11. Implements ongoing safety checks to assure a healthy and safe camp environment. Implements emergency procedures when necessary.
12. Completes additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have at least 24 weeks of previous administrative or supervisory experience in camping or equivalent experience acceptable to the NYS Commissioner of Health.
2. Must have a Bachelor’s degree or be at least 25 years of age to meet overnight camp regulations.
3. Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.
4. American Red Cross, American Health Association, American Safety & Health Institute certification in CPR/AED (Adult, Child, Infant)/
5. American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies is preferred.
Daily pay rate: $75
