YMCA is Hiring a Sports Coordinator Near Birmingham, AL

This is a Part-Time position.

Provides supervision of the whole site experience for players, coaches, and spectators. Develops connections among YMCA members and staff, resulting in the development of friendships and YMCA advocates and volunteers. Maintains and organizes equipment and makes certain game sites left cleaner than found. Provides a point of contact for parents, program participants, and members and performs retention activities.

Position Overview:

The Youth Sports Coordinator will assist the Director of Youth Sports in managing and enhancing sports programs across the association. This role is essential in fostering a supportive, fun, and educational environment for youth sports participants.

Essential Functions

  • Possess the ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

  • Understand the rules and experience playing a specific sport or on an organized team.

  • Possess the ability to work with varying ages and to manage large groups.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to listen and discern participants, members, and guests' wants, needs, and interests.

  • Ability to support people from all walks of life.

  • Enforces YMCA policies and guidelines.

  • Solicit feedback on the program through program surveys and participant/ parent feedback and relay all messages to the supervisor.

  • Records all accident/incident reports as required by supervisor and reacts immediately to member/participant comments/concerns

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, execution, and evaluation of youth sports programs.

  • Support the Director of Youth Sports in administrative duties, including scheduling, registration, and maintaining participant records.

  • Coordinate with coaches and volunteers to ensure all programs run smoothly and meet YMCA standards.

  • Engage with families and participants to ensure a positive and inclusive environment.

  • Assist in training staff and volunteers on YMCA policies and best practices in youth sports.

  • Help manage equipment and facilities needed for sports programs.

  • Develop and implement season schedules for various sports, ensuring optimal use of facilities and resources.

  • Conduct regular meetings with sports program staff to review progress and address any issues.

  • Oversee the maintenance and inventory of sports equipment and uniforms.

  • Implement safety protocols and ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations.

  • Coordinate special events, tournaments, and end-of-season celebrations.

  • Develop and oversee a system for evaluating program effectiveness and participant satisfaction.

  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Director of Youth Sports on program status and participant feedback.

  • Provides a point of contact for parents, program participants, and members and performs retention activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Employees and volunteers who directly supervise children and teens will:

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children and teens

  • Attend required abuse risk management training annually

  • Adhere to procedures for managing high-risk activities and supervising children and teens.

  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

  • 19 years of age

  • Obtain First Aid & CPR Certification*

  • Mandatory Abuse Reporting Training*

  • Experience working in youth sports or recreational programs.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Proficiency in using office software and sports management systems.

  • Commitment to the YMCA's mission and core values.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically capable of lifting 50 pounds.
