At the YMCA, we are looking for role models like you to join one of our 15 branches as a Summer Camp Counselor.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A LEAD SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR:

• Plan, prepare for, lead, and teach various activities to groups of 4-20 youth.
• Supervise outdoor recreation activities related to schools and camp groups.
• Ensure the safety and cleanliness of the program areas, equipment, and camp living spaces.
• Host and facilitate assigned groups to ensure the best possible delivery of services.
• Clean and turnover camp after each group’s visit.
• Attend all program staff meetings.
• Assist in maintaining, supporting, and implementing Camp Services goals and objectives.
• Perform all other tasks necessary for the overall success of Camping Services.
• Contribute to the “community” nature of camp and may at times be asked to perform functions that are not a regular part of their daily routine.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR:

• Minimum age of 18
• Current state approved first-aid certification
• Current CPR certification
• Minimum of 6 months experience working with youth
• Possess knowledge and desire to work with children.
• Possess mature judgment and sound decision-making.
• Ability to communicate effectively with members, peers, and supervisors.
• Ability to effectively communicate information on YMCA Programs
• Must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
