YMCA is Hiring an Assistant Tennis Pro-Mountain Brook Branch Near Birmingham, AL

The YMCA focus is to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Under the guidance of the Tennis Director, the Assistant Tennis Professional will be responsible for teaching tennis clinics, lessons increasing program participation, court maintenance, stringing and other daily duties. Provides a quality experience to members and guests focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Essential Functions:

  • Promotes and incorporates the YMCA five core values and character development model in to all program activities.
  • Help develop innovative and profitable programming.
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Builds relationships with and among members, responds to inquiries and solves problems.
  • Creates a safe and supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new members, and connects members to the YMCAs cause.
  • Works with appropriate branch staff to provide program facilities for members that are clean, safe, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive.
  • Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures.
  • Reports all incidents and completes accident reports as necessary.
  • Respond to member questions and concerns and provide feedback about the game as requested.
  • Attends staff meetings and training as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Significant knowledge of the sport and/or experience coaching tennis in order to advise participants and coaches.
  • Working towards Association Certification-USPTA or USPTR
  • Knowledgeable of advanced and up-to-date tennis instruction.
  • Ability to read/write and perform basic mathematical computations
  • Knowledge of court surfaces, equipment and training methods
  • Be able to organize groups of people effectively as well as know how to break down a skill and explain it so that participants can understand and perform the skill.
  • Pro must communicate and work with a variety of people including children, staff, school staff, other host staff and community members.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Individuals must possess maturity, sound judgment, a strong sense of responsibility, and have developed solid human relations skills.
  • Sound organizational skills, as well as good oral and written communications skills and attention to detail are essential elements required to perform the duties of this position.

  • Possesses and demonstrates a strong understanding of the YMCA and its purpose, mission and values.
  • Must be available to work evenings as well as Saturdays up to 8 hours during active sports season.
  • Successful completion of background screening and Child Abuse & Neglect.
  • Acquire and maintain the following certifications via YMCA, American Red Cross, American Heart Association and American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI):
    • First Aid/CPR /AED (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted)
  • Requisite Online Training Modules (completed annually).

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for extended period of time, walk, lift, and/or move up to 25 pounds, have finger dexterity grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity.
  • The nature of the environment is one in which the employee may come in contact with outside weather conditions that may include hot/cold temperatures.
