POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Youth Sports Director will organize and administer Lakewood afterschool care, youth sports programming and sports camp at the Durham YMCA’s. They will be responsible for managing those programs in accordance with the stated mission, goals and policies established by the Board of Directors, governing committees and administrative staff of the YMCA of the Triangle Area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Contributes to and supervises the fulfillment of the YMCA mission through the Youth Sports Department activities and programs.
• ·Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
• Supports the overall vision for youth, branch and association initiatives.
• Plans and promotes high-quality sports programming for assigned programs with an emphasis on safety, relationships, skill development, character development, group control and fun.
• Is involved in evening and weekend sports rotation (2-3 evenings per week/2-3 weekends per month) to facilitate and supervise practices, game days and other critical aspects of the department.
• Coordinates all internal and external communication for the department, including league, practice, clinic and game day schedules.
• Responsible for preparing and implementing the annual budget for camp and sports programs and activities and maintaining all budget expectations and accountable for proper management of resources.
• Continually evaluates, improves, and innovates all assigned programs to ensure they meet or exceed Association guidelines and standards.
• Maintains all records of assigned programs that are necessary for operating the department and branch effectively.
• Maintains current and required certifications and records for staff according to the YMCA of the Triangle requirements.
• Assists with the YMCA Annual Campaign through development of staff team, recruiting volunteers and meeting annual fundraising goals as assigned.
• Supports the operation of the overall YMCA of the Triangle and Durham YMCAs. This may include initiatives and projects outside of the sports department.

  • Fall and Winter Youth Basketball
  • Youth Sports Clinics: Rookie Sports, Basketball, Volleyball
  • Camp Bull Run Sport
  • Lakewood After School
  • Supports Intersession and Holiday Care
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred and/or 1-2 years of related experience.
• Experienced in and passionate about creating and fostering communities and relationship building through programs.
• Demonstrated experience in program and personnel development.
• Ability to effectively manage staff, programs, and department schedules.
• Exceptional oral, public speaking and written communication skills.
• Possess a high level of organization, ability to prioritize and possess the capacity to respond and handle multiple tasks appropriately in a dynamic and fast paced work environment.
• Requires a positive attitude, high level of initiative and professionalism, and enjoy working in and creating a strong team environment.
• Demonstrate initiative, effectively prioritize, and possess strong organizational skills.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
• Multi-lingual desired but not required.

• Must hold CPR, AED, O2 and First Aid certifications, or be willing to obtain these.
