POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Assists with the development, organization and implementation of high quality YMCA child development program(s). Provides support to the Director assisting with leadership and daily oversight of programs (school aged childcare, pre-school/early learning, camp) as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with the development and implementation of purposeful programming and curriculum, daily routines, and program procedures, helping to ensure high quality programs.
  • Assists with the day to day operations which includes, but not limited to scheduling, handling parental concerns, ensuring safety and security of all children and staff in the Child Development Programs.
  • Assists as directed with administrative tasks that support the department which may include maintaining staff records as per DHS, Keystone STARS and other accreditations, preparing for inspections/audits, assisting with enrolling children, preparing newsletters, and ensuring accurate and timely payment on accounts.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
  • Provides staff with descriptive feedback for redirecting challenging behaviors in the children. Supports Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) implementation.
  • Effectively communicates with supervisor and co-workers to provide feedback for program improvement, concerns, etc. Assists with observations and evaluations of teachers.
  • Acts as an Assistant Group Supervisor/Group Supervisor where assigned and has flexible availability to work early morning to late evening hours in accordance with program needs.
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Inventories supplies and follows procedures for ordering within budget guidelines.
  • Attends required trainings and monthly quality meetings.
  • Attends and participates in YMCA activities/events as required.
  • Reports suspected abuse in accordance with the PA Child Protective Services Law and YMCA policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field is strongly preferred
  • Qualifications of an Assistant Group Supervisor required; at minimum a high school diploma or general educational development certificate and 2 years documented experience with children
  • Minimum of 2 years experience with School Age children and/or Early Learning preferred
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards, required credentials and completion of YMCA program specific certifications
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
    the community
