YMCA of Southwestern Indiana is Hiring a Group Exercise Instructor - Toyota Indiana YMCA Near Evansville, IN

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the guidance of the Senior Wellness Director, a group exercise instructor is responsible for working with members in a courteous and motivating manner. This position works independently under the general direction of the Toyota Indiana Y Leadership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.

  • Complete required abuse risk management training.

  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

  • Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

  • Ensure check-in procedures are followed.

  • Creates a safe environment in which all individuals feel welcomed and respected; builds relationships with and among members and program participants.

  • Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, that align with the healthy living program goals and objectives.

  • Understands different health needs; observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.

  • Asks and answers questions and displays empathy in support of helping members and program participants build confidence to achieve their health and wellness goals.

  • Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.

  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.

  • Keeps accurate class attendance records.

  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen, and Blood Borne Pathogen training is required within 60 days of employment.

  • Child Abuse Prevention training is required on/before the first day of work.

  • Certification/membership is required for a licensed program (Les Mills BODYPUMP, SilverSneakers, Zumba, etc.) that you are hired to teach.
