Description

Our Venice YMCA is seeking coaches in our gymnastics programs. We are looking for coaches for all programs we offer.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Gymnastics/Program Director, the Gymnastics Team Coach III teaches the competitive gymnastics team students how to safely execute advanced gymnastics skills. The Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and documenting each lesson and ensuring a positive, safe, educational, and fun environment for athletes.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide a safe, fun, positive and secure setting for team level students to learn the sport of gymnastics.
  • Teach developmentally appropriate gymnastics classes, which include observing, instructing, and spotting athletes as they perform on the various apparatus.
  • Supervise and be actively involved with all activities to maintain order and discipline.
  • Prepare lesson plans and training stations and coordinate practices which are relevant and appropriate for each level of skill.
  • Keep attendance records and submit
  • Communicate to Director any problems, concerns, or suggestions regarding athletes.
  • Report equipment problems or concerns to the Director and uphold all safety-related issues in the gym.
  • Attend gymnastics competitions while representing our program and the YMCA in a positive and professional manner.
  • Maintain current certifications relative to your specialty and YMCA guidelines.
  • Attend staff/coach meetings and training as required per YMCA or Gymnastics Director.
  • Follow all YMCA policies and procedures related to keeping athletes safe in our facility and programs, including those related to managing parents and guests.
  • Maintain and project a positive attitude in the gymnastics area and all other areas of the YMCA. Partaking in rumors or negative discussions regarding the gymnastics center, employees, or participants will not be tolerated.
  • Keep gymnastics center and equipment clean and organized at all times. Assist and maintain cleanliness in gymnastics lobby, camp rooms, rest room areas, etc.
  • Dress appropriately for coaching, including staff shirt, appropriate pants or shorts, closed-toe shoes, hair pulled back professionally.
  • Be punctual. Arrive 10 minutes prior to class to set up and prepare for classes.
  • All other duties as required and necessary.
  • On-site attendance is required for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of prior gymnastics coaching women’s optional levels 6-10 preferred.
  • Ability to recognize the mastery of appropriate skills per level. Demonstrated ability to teach basic skill development using proper progressions and techniques on each apparatus.
  • Knowledge and understanding regarding the USAG and AAU Gymnastics guidelines, policies, and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach the development of skills and proper techniques on each apparatus.
  • Ability to lift equipment and to spot children.
  • Ability to motivate and effectively communicate with members, nonmembers, parents, and students.
  • Exercises mature judgment and sound decision-making.
  • Ability to individually lead, assist, and mentor fellow team coaches.
  • Willingness to sub for any level class when extra staffing is needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with athletes of all ages and parents
  • Enthusiasm for the sport of gymnastics and working with children.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations, follow emergency protocol procedures, and do so in a calm manner.
  • Completion of CPR / 1st Aid Safety Certifications, Bloodborne Pathogens and Child Abuse & Neglect Certifications per YMCA policy within first 30 days of employment.

CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successfully meet the Association’s policies on background screening.
  • Current or Prior USA Gymnastics Professional Membership
  • Safe Sport Trained
  • USA Gymnastics courses: Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction
  • USA Gymnastics Safety & Risk Management Certification
  • CPR / 1st Aid Safety Certified
  • ·YMCA Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect
  • Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols
  • Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor
