Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Summer Camp Site Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Site Coordinator with administrative and supervisory duties on site. This role manages an assigned site daily. This role assists in planning for Summer Camp, implementation of those plans, and carries out daily scheduling. The Assistant Site Coordinator is expected to uphold YMCA policies and philosophy and to use these objectives as a basis in working with everyone, participants, teachers, and caregivers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with organizing, planning, supervising, and executing high quality childcare programming that reflects a positive image of the YMCA and its services to the community
  • Assists in planning and executing special events, spirit days, and family events
  • Participates in regular formal and informal program evaluation and assists in effectively implements any improvements or adjustments as needed.
  • Subject to random inspection; must maintain 80% minimum compliance on Association Day Camp checklist
  • Interacts with participants to ensure that their individual needs are met
  • Ensures all necessary program supplies are on hand, well maintained, organized, and accessible to program staff at all times.
  • Regularly assumes the same duties as the Camp Staff or Site Coordinator at the site
  • Reviews and discusses with Site Coordinator any concerns with staff or campers.
  • Directly supervises other program staff (Counselors, Jr Counselors) and volunteers in the performance of their duties by providing guidance, leadership, and support.
  • Assists with staff training, leading weekly staff meetings, and reviewing participants and staff performance (progress and/or problems)
  • Ensures that staff & volunteers carry out daily schedule of activities for their specific group of campers.
  • Assists with planning, supervising, and executing an environment of customer service excellence
  • Greet caregivers and participants upon their arrival to the site
  • Quickly responds to the concerns of caregivers and staff
  • Ensures program information is regularly communicated to caregivers via a variety of channels (signage, print, email, etc.) and maintains regular communication with caregiver families
  • May be responsible for regular parent communication via email or phone.
  • Develops and fosters interpersonal relationships between participants, staff, and caregiver families; is pro-active creating a positive, welcoming environment of cooperation, friendliness, and helpfulness towards staff and customers.
  • Actively listens to all participants, staff, and members, showing patience, understanding, and respect for others.
  • Actively protects the emotional safety of all participants and staff, encouraging development of social skills and emotional intelligence
  • Responsible for the physical safety of participants and staff at all times
  • Responsible for training staff on understanding and implementing emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Ensures compliance with all YMCA safety and DCF licensing requirements for summer camp programming.
  • Assumes responsibility of the Site at all times. Ensures all site-specific opening and closing procedures are completed daily.
  • Monitors the program area at all times to ensure physical safety, uphold all staff safety requirements and immediately makes changes, as necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining and enforcing all cleanliness standards throughout the day as well as proper safe food handling procedures (particularly with regard to food allergies)
  • Responsible for maintaining and responding to all required daily reports– including but not limited to:
  • Attendance & absenteeism
  • Incidents, accidents, and behavior reports
  • Food Program reports
  • Responsible for any other duties relevant to position as assigned by the Supervisor

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ALL POSITIONS:

  • Will appear clean, neat, and appropriately attired in accordance with the Association’s Policy on personal appearance
  • Will adhere to all YMCA and DCF policies
  • Sets measurable goals and evaluates achievement of goals
  • Reports to work at the scheduled time and works as scheduled
  • Attends all staff trainings, staff meetings, and participates in family events and activities
  • Completes work in a timely, accurate and thorough manner
  • Nothing in this job description restricts management’s job to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Successfully complete DCF Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association’s policies on background screening
  • Prior experience working with children and supervising staff
  • Willingness to carry out the Mission of the YMCA and its programs
  • Professional appearance and behavior
  • Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy
  • Able to prioritize and meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality
  • Must be a self-starter, with high energy and a positive attitude
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Able to supervise others, give guidance and direction, take feedback; be enthusiastic, patient, and flexible
  • Skilled in teaching a variety of crafts, songs, stories, games, sports, aquatics and related camp activities

CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • CPR and First Aid Certifications required
  • Annual completion of YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogens training and YMCA of the USA Child Abuse and Neglect class
  • 30 hours of YMCA Day Camp Curriculum, Policy, and Procedure training
  • 8 hours of YMCA of Southwest Florida Association Day Camp training
  • Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols
  • Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor
