YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina, Inc. is Hiring an OPENING LIFEGUARD - YEAR-ROUND (NIR FAMILY YMCA) Near Wilmington, NC

POSITION SUMMARY:
A YMCA lifeguard ensures the safety of all swimmers by preventing accidents and responding to emergencies quickly and efficiently. To ensure safety, lifeguards must enforce safety guidelines, and remain alert at all times. A lifeguard will assist in the operation of the pool and perform related work as assigned.
Status Type: Part-time, hourly non-exempt. $14.09 - $15.85/hour depending on experience
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area by scanning the pool in a continuous and consistent manner.
Reports to duty 20 minutes prior to opening at 5AM.
Pool must be open every morning Monday through Friday from 5AM to 9AM and must be accessible to patrons.
Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.
Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
Knows, understands, and consistently enforces safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Reports these finding to the Assistant Aquatics Coordinator/Director.
Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and throughout the day reports findings to the Assistant Aquatics Coordinator/Director.
Performs chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and takes appropriate action.
Attends all staff meetings and in-service training as required.
Provides excellent service to members, guest, and program participants in the Y, to assist with contributing member retention.
Handles and resolves membership concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues in a positive professional manner.
Be able to lift 50 pounds.
Maintains and cleans all restrooms, pool decks, trash cans and parking lot areas.
Must always maintain professionalism and be rescue ready.
Must be prepared for extreme weather (may be in the heat/sun for long periods of time)
Must maintain physical conditioning to perform lifeguard skills.
Must always be alert by the pools edge, never leave the pool unattended.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum age of 18.
Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification. 
Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding
Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA/American Red Cross standards.
Physical Demands:
Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
Must be able to remain alert.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and
loud situations.
