Availability:?Monday-Friday; Hours will vary based on school/branch. Must be available for shifts between 6:00am-6:30 pm. This is a split shift position in the school year and straight shift during the summer.

What you will do at the Y:

School-Age Care Leads teach teamwork and social skills to children in Before and After School settings as they grow and learn. The majority of responsibilities are working directly with youth with complex needs in a one-on-one or small group setting, ensuring their safety, well-being and development through interactive play and other activities as directed.
They help support the onsite functions of a site with additional responsibilities related to family interactions, check in and out and site management.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Implement daily lesson and activity plans
  • Work directly with children with complex needs within program area
  • Regularly observes, schedules and completes evaluations for each child
  • Maintain communication with families
  • Maintain materials, equipment, and program facility
  • Maintain required program records
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age 18
  • 2 years’ experience working with children with complex needs, preferred
  • Meet educational and experience qualifications established by Dept of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF)
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent;
  • Have completed twelve college credits in any one hundred-level or above college coursework within five years of employment
  • Provide document of all certification and training requirements established by DCYF, including position prerequisites, current negative TB test, other required vaccinations, and portable background check
  • Plan, organize, and implement high quality developmentally appropriate programming
  • Fluency in second language preferred

Physical Demands:

As directed, lead and participate in a range of activities in indoor/outdoor settings. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise program activities. Staff may be required to move weights of approximately 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve non-routine and complex problems; may use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines with frequent interruptions; and interact with members, staff, volunteers, and others encountered in the course of work, some of whom may be dissatisfied individuals.

The full range of the pay grade for this position is $19.65-$32.30.
