The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Lead Challenge Course Facilitator to join our team!

TheYMCAfocuses on empowering people in all forms, by improving health and well-being and inspiring action in and across our neighborhoods. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

As a Lead Challenge Course Facilitator, you will be responsible for assisting with challenge course duties and responsibilities. We are looking for applicants who have challenge course and facilitation experience, and who love helping people to push themselves and learn from their adventures. Applicants must be safety conscious and dedicated to using best practices at all times. If hired, you will maintain a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate groups of 8 to 16 teens/adults in challenge course programming, including:
  • Low ropes and initiatives
  • High ropes – dynamic and/or static elements
  • Zip lines - Dual and/or Zip Course
  • Organize and maintain challenge course and zip line equipment and log books.
  • Work with Senior Director of Group Services to build and follow the schedule, including set-up, program facilitation, and clean-up.
  • Follow local operating procedures. Inspect gear before and after use, and complete daily use forms.
  • Monitor adventure equipment and supplies, resupply as necessary.
  • Complete accident/incident and “close call” reports as needed.
  • Appropriately guide groups in meaningful debrief discussions.
  • Keep personal challenge course portfolio up to date and on file at Camp Seymour.
  • Maintain regular observations on staff performance; give staff positive and constructive feedback; communicate significant observations to direct supervisors.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in the outdoors.
  • Comfort or the ability to gain comfort with climbing and working 20'-60' off the ground for extended periods of time while using personal protective equipment (harness, helmet, safety lanyards)
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move a higher amount.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • 1 or more years of related experience
  • Experience in belaying/rock climbing and/or leading teambuilding activities.
  • Positive attitude and previous experience with teens/adults and diverse populations.
  • Knowledge and skills to debrief activities with diverse populations.
  • Current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications.
  • Preferred: ACCT Level II or equivalent documented experience.
  • Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day. Complete other online and in-person training as required.

Wage: $16.53 to $18.53 per hour, depending on qualifications

Hours: Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week

Location: YMCA Camp Seymour, Gig Harbor, WA
