POSITION SUMMARY:

The School Bus Driver must have an active commercial driver’s license (CDL) and should be clear of at-fault accidents and traffic citations on their driving record, as they are maintaining the safety of children. A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required. This individual must undergo and pass a criminal background check. Additional physical, hearing and vision testing may be required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Transport children and other passengers to and from childcare centers safely.

2. Obey all traffic laws.

3. Always maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus.

4. Ensure the safety of all students and passengers.

5. Assist with children getting on/off the bus as needed.

6. Discipline children as needed to maintain a safe environment.

7. Perform inspections on the bus before and after each route.

8. Complete the ODJFS Child Care Transportation training.

9. Attend safety meetings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have an active CDL

2. Must have a clean traffic record

3. Minimum age of 21 & must present themselves as a professional through image and communication.

4. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid

5. Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program specific certifications.

6. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

5. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
