Pay Range: Starting at $120.00 Daily Rate
Position Summary:
Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Camp Director, the Boating Coordinator will supervise and implement activities including, banana and pontoon boating, and sailing. The Boating Coordinator will maintain the safety of campers and staff and ensure the program is run efficiently through detailed supervision and objective decision making.
Essential Functions:

This position requires working outside all day during the summer
Be an appropriate role model for all campers by adhering to YMCA Code of Conduct, Work Rules, and Dress Code
Know where all campers are at all times and utilize a group travel system and frequent head counts to ensure campers are always accounted for; Safeguard the lives of campers, staff and other camp guests in boating areas
Ensure each camper’s experience is safe and positive by using conflict resolution skills and dealing with discipline problems based on given guidelines, while keeping supervisor informed of all concerns
Know, adhere to, and enforce all YMCA rules, policies and emergency procedures
Submit reports and paperwork on time, as required
Attend staff meetings and training sessions, as required
Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and supervisors
Remain attentive and vigilant when operating boats during banana boat, pontoon, and sailing activities
Enforce boating rules in courteous but firm manner
Assist in maintenance and upkeep of boat fleet including cleaning, security and end of season storage
Manage all boat maintenance including ensuring gas tanks are properly filled daily
Secure boats by locking them to the dock when not in use
Carry out all other task and objectives as assigned by supervisors
Be alert to program safety factors and potential hazards; prevent accidents and minimize or eliminate hazardous situations; report any problems or hazards to supervisor immediately
Supervise the Sailing staff, boating lifeguards and all boating programs
Maintain American Red Cross lifeguard certification and attend the required in-services
Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA
An enthusiastic personality with the desire to serve volunteers, guests, participants and staff to create a culture of service
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
Excellent communication and organization skills
Must be able to work on a team and willingness to work outdoors
Ability to think in the abstract, solve problems, make decisions, instruct, evaluate, lead others
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
Minimum 18 years of age
High school diploma or equivalent required
One year experience with lifeguarding, boating and general water front safety procedure required
Supervisory experience preferred
Certifications Required:
Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation Certification
Within two weeks of hire or before 1st shift with children (whichever comes first): Camp Staff Training Orientation
Before first shift: successfully complete Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program Specialty Level; obtain/maintain Ellis & Assoc. lifeguard license
