Hours: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM (preference is for 6–8-hour shift availability)

Day Camp Director will oversee the daily operations and management of a camp. The Camp Director is instrumental in making sure all camp activities are planned and scheduled daily for campers, and that all Day Camp Group Leaders understand their daily roles and responsibilities to ensure that campers are provided with a safe, engaging, bully-free and intentionally fun environment. 

Requirements

  • Must qualify and follow state license standards (Texas Department of Safety and Health Services or Texas Department of Health and Human Services) including pass background checks.
  • Minimum age: 21 years of age; Education: High School Degree/ G.E.D. or higher
  • At least 1-year previous experience in childcare or other recognized facility, with a bachelor’s degree OR 2 years of full-time experience working in licensed childcare with at least 70 credit hours of training in child or youth development, recreational leadership, or management without a bachelor’s degree.
  • Assist in training and supervising part-time Day Camp Group Leaders with the assistance Program Director.
  • Opening and Closing responsibilities including follow pick-up and check-out procedures, greet, and talk with parents, etc.
  • Manage supply expenses, inventory, ordering, storage management as well as coordinating any grounds maintenance or upkeep.
  • Supervision, safety, and program implementation for campers while ensuring the well-being of all children.
  • Keep an accurate daily count of the children in the program each day and follow the field trip procedure set at staff training.
  • Encourage creativity and intellectual curiosity by building on the child’s interests and talents.
  • Maintain a strong, positive relationship with the local YMCA personnel to ensure our community connection to that branch. As well as communicating effectively with parents and staff.
  • Ability to work outdoors for majority of the day and lead activities, including being in the pool on swim days.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time to provide proper auditory and visual supervision while walking around, and carry at least 30 pounds when needed, and be able to go from sitting to standing with ease.
  • Must have basic computer skills and excellent communication skills including verbal and written.
  • Portray a positive role model for youth by maintaining an attitude of respect, loyalty, patience, integrity, courtesy, and maturity.
