GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The Program Director is responsible for the planning, budgeting and coordination of all related programming, special events in Youth & Adult sports, Youth Center and Child Watch of the Defiance Area YMCA.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent preferred but not required.
  2. Minimum two years related experience preferred.
  3. Strong organizational and communication skills along with basic computer skills are required.
  4. General knowledge of/interest in wellness, fitness, and sports strongly preferred.
  5. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  6. Additional training requirements within 30 days of hire include: Child Abuse Prevention; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
  7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  3. Will be accountable for meeting or exceeding target conditions related to his/her areas of responsibility.
  4. Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  5. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations.
  6. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  7. Develops and monitors program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
  8. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  9. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints within 24 hours.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  • Ensure the safety of all participants in their department(s). Notify the Executive Director and front desk of any injury or emergency. File Incident/Accident reports.
  • Give tours of the facility; promote the benefits of membership. Explain pricing and options.
  • Schedule for this position will include nights and weekends and be part of the MOD schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
