GENERAL FUNCTION :

The Preschool Prep Teacher will be available during their scheduled program / class. This person is an advocate for YMCA Core Values and assists in carrying out the YMCA / JCC of Greater Toledo's Mission Statement.

This individual will possess extensive experience in leading creative and art lesson programs and will ensure a great environment and act as a liaison between parents, students and the Associate Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Knowledge about all phases of the various forms of art, related skills and instructional techniques. Ability to lead others.

Strong communication and teamwork skills. At least 18 years old.

• Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include : completion of : Child Abuse Prevention; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

• Develop and implement lesson plans for the art program, providing for an enriching and fun environment.
• Be ready to work at scheduled times.
• Teach foundational skills, such as recognizing letter, colors, numbers and shaped, as well as social, language and motor skills.
• Establish and enforce rules of behavior for children in their classrooms
• Provide basic needs for children
• Provide tools and resources for children to use and explore during learning and play activities
• Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of children
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and parents
• Maintain a clean and tidy classroom
• Help children reach developmental milestones
• Provide appropriate supervision for children at all times
• Maintain inventory system for classroom materials and supplies
• Facilitate various activities for children including songs, games and storytelling and crafts
• Adhere to health / safety and sanitation procedures
• Supervise the students to ensure all rules are being followed.
• Act as a liaison between parents, students and the Associate Executive Director.
• Start and end programs / classes on time.
• Understand and demonstrate the YMCA / JCC philosophy and core values.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
