Job Summary

The Crisis Intervention Specialist I Provides comprehensive, short-term crisis outreach services to young adults in King County experiencing a mental health or behavioral emergency. On an established rotation and as a part of a team, serves clients 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year in all parts of King County; Stabilizes the initial crisis, provides intensive support, and links the client to ongoing formal and informal support systems.

This position is at the Social Impact Center Y, the social services branch of YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS). The mission of the Social Impact Center Y is to accelerate young people’s ability to build safe, successful, and happy lives. Every year, we serve 5,000 children, youth, young adults, and families across King County with programs that aim to strengthen young people’s ability to develop to their fullest potential through four strategies: reducing risk factors; navigating systems towards successful life transition; ensuring stability, safety and wellness in times of crisis; and building competencies and social capital. The Social Impact Center Y’s programs include housing, behavioral health, foster care licensing, violence prevention, education, and employment. Many of the young people we serve have had involvement in the foster care, criminal justice system, and/or homelessness systems.

Hiring Range: $65,520 - $72,072/yr

Responsibilities

  • Provides immediate, short term, acute crisis intervention services to young adults in King County to prevent loss of housing/shelter placement and psychiatric hospitalization. As part of a team, serve clients and partner agency staff 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year in all parts of King County.
  • Provides services at housing and shelter sites, as well as other community locations. Meets with each young adult with appropriate urgency, intensity and frequency for the crisis situation - sometimes multiple times and hours per week.
  • Provides short-term individual stabilization services and resource linkage, including risk assessments, safety planning, skills training, behavior management, de-escalation training and brief counseling.
  • Develops and implements care plans and safety plans sensitive to the young adult’s cultural, social, and mental health needs.
  • Assists young adults in articulating personal goals for recovery, setting action plans to reach their goals, and taking initial steps on their plans.
  • Documents client strengths, problem areas, recovery goals, objectives, interventions, and progress using case management software and approved documentation formats within established timelines.
  • Teaches young adults how to facilitate their own recovery, access community resources, and use effective problem-solving techniques.
  • Helps young adults identify and engage natural and community support conducive to recovery.
  • Helps young adults build their own care team for wraparound support. Attends treatment team meetings to promote client use of self-directed recovery tools using the principles and values of Wraparound.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of current trends and developments in the mental health field through continuing education and reading relevant materials.
  • Reports all critical incidents and adheres to YMCA program policies and procedures.
  • As part of our unified Behavioral Health division approach, provides support as needed to the children’s crisis and outpatient teams.
  • Participates actively in annual YMCA fundraising campaign by sharing the impact of YMCA programs and soliciting funds to support services to people in need.
  • Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field. 
  • One or more years post-graduate experience providing short-term mental health services to youth and families from a broad range of cultures and social needs.
  • Registered counselor in Washington.
  • Training and experience in individual, family, and group treatment modalities.
  • Strong engagement and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work in a team management approach.
  • Strong organizational skills with an attention to details, timelines, and follow-through.
  • Ability to meet with clients at home and in the community. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance coverage is required, or ability to travel to areas without public transportation.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and work evenings and weekends.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical activity, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
