YMCA of Greater Providence is Hiring a Senior Waterfront Lifeguard Near North, RI

Brief DescriptionThis position is eligible for a potential $1000 end of summer bonus.

This position is expected to be 16 hours per week.
Position Summary.Provide a safe swimming environment insuring adherence to all waterfront rules and regulations. Assist the Aquatic Director with the training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of aquatic staff.
Reports To:Aquatics Director
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for supervising on-duty staff, ensuring that they are in accordance with all safety guidelines and Quick Check elements.
  • Responsible for enforcing policies and monitoring staff behavior.
  • Responsible for communicating with Aquatic Director and/or Aquatic Coordinator about staff performance, safety concerns, questions and/or suggestions for improving daily waterfront operations.
  • Assist in aquatic department administrative tasks: completing quick checks, other duties may be assigned.
  • Assist Director and/or Coordinator with monthly in-service trainings for all staff.
  • Responsible for the health and safety of all individuals on the waterfront, i.e. caution regarding unsafe practices and conditions and perform rescue/first aid when necessary. Report accidents and injuries and complete accident reports.
  • Responsible for documenting any special incidents with appropriate report and discuss incident and action steps with Director.
  • Report maintenance or safety issues to Aquatics Director.
  • Responsible for attending staff meetings/events as scheduled.
  • Delegate tasks to staff, making sure that all staff are properly utilized.
  • Demonstrate and teach the Character Development values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Responsible for arriving prepared for scheduled shift, which includes arriving for duty 15 minutes prior; in proper attire; prepared for constant concentration and visual surveillance of swimmers with no distractions.
  • Work in harmony and cooperation with the staff, volunteers, and members of the YMCA to develop team spirit and family atmosphere.
  • Promote self-esteem during class instruction while being and enthusiastic and positive representative of the YMCA.
  • Qualifications

Education And/or Experience
  • High School (GED) preferred.
  • 3-5 years of aquatic experience
Certifications / Training: (not all are required to apply)
  • YMCA Lifeguard Certification or equivalent
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Oxygen Administration Certificate
  • State Lifeguard Certificate (Not required)
  • Listen First
  • Child Abuse Prevention
