Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under the oversight of the Youth & Family Director provide leadership to all areas of the Youth & Family Department and to coordinate planning, development, staff oversight and implementation of all activities in the Youth and Family Department and supervise the programs under the principles of the YMCA Character Development, caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must stay current in CPRPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually. 
  • Bloodborne Pathogens, Sexual Harassment and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire and renewed annually.
  • Consists of working with school age children and is an active position requiring the coordinator to participate in activities with youth by being prepared to lead games and activities.
  • To coordinate planning, development, staff oversight, and implementation of all activities in the child care program at a designated day camp site.
  • Coordinate and implement food program enrichment and nutrition activities in Year Round Food Program.
  • Assist in oversight of the Year Round Food Program CACFP and Summer Food Program SFSP, including but not limited to: submitting applications, working with our site sponsor (the Regional Food Bank), and collecting data.
  • Must be sensitive, mature and able to relate well to infants, children and adults.
  • Establish a positive relationship with each child and communicate regularly with children and parents.
  • In the absence of the Youth & Family Director will assume supervision of the department.
  • Must be able to make quick decisions and be assertive in enforcing rules & regulations.
  • Ability to handle irate, complaining or demanding individuals without internalizing or personalizing comments made.
  • Will be a contact person when department staff fails to show for assigned shifts. Assist Youth & Family Director in hiring, training and supervision of department staff.
  • Assist the program Director with developing and maintaining a Youth & Family newsletter as well as planning monthly family events when needed.
  • Maintain accurate paperwork including incident reports registration forms, timesheet, new hire forms, staff training records, attendance and enrollment records.
  • Evening & weekend work as needed. Must attend all scheduled YMCA trainings.
  • Keep program area clean and equipment organized, report any equipment breakdowns or safety issues to Youth & Family Director.
  • Supervise staff to provide a safe and healthy environment.
  • Ensure the safety and well being of all children and be accountable of all school-age group members at all times.
  • Know licensing requirements of DHS for school age, summer camp and child care programs. Maintain a DHS regulation ratio at all times.
  • Maintain minimum requirement for state and YMCA standards.
  • Administer and oversee the curriculum outlines on a daily basis as part of the goals set in conjunction with the Youth & Family Director.
  • Collect and maintain current records from program participants.
  • Develop positive relationships with school district personnel and community partners. Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors and volunteers.
  • Be responsible for upholding the YMCA employee appearance guidelines.
  • Assist the program Director with development and maintenance of the Youth and Family annual budget.
  • Assist the program Director with Annual Community Support campaign, United Way Campaign and department sub-committee.
  • Physical activities include heavy work involving body movement and physical application, reaching/lifting (5-50 pounds), Standing/walking, repetitive motions, physical motion/movement, bending, pushing/pulling, kneeling.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Person must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and have 12 hours elementary education or child development course work or at least two years experience working with children.
  • Must have knowledge and ability to manage the childcare program, supervise staff, and schedule activities.
  • Ability to work as a team member and to make decisions independently.
  • Must exemplify and support the philosophy of the YMCA.
  • Able to communicate effectively both oral and written.
  • Must be certified in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid.
