YMCA of Greater Houston is Hiring a School Liaison Near Houston, TX

Title: School Liaison

Reports To: Refugee School Impact Coordinator

Pay: $50,460.80-$60,552.96 Full-Time, Exempt Position

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm. Evening/weekend hours as required.

DescriptionAlief International Services YMCA is a unique branch of the YMCA of Greater Houston and seeks to meet the needs of Houston’s significant refugee and immigrant communities. We provide comprehensive programs that focus on building human assets and fostering self-sufficiency. The Refugee School Impact Program (RSI) aims to mitigate barriers for both refugee families and local school personnel so that refugee families, school administrators, and teachers can truly focus on each individual child’s academic performance and overall well-being. The full-time School Liaison will build partnerships at Houston-area schools and improve relationships between schools and RSI clients under the leadership of the program director. YMCA International Services’ goal is to help clients reach self-sufficiency.

Duties /Responsibilities

The School Liaison’s primary responsibilities include:

  • Organize and lead school enrollments, parent orientation workshops and needs assessments for new clients.
  • Work with the program coordinator as needed to establish partnerships with schools and other school-related organizations through networking and outreach events.
  • Travel to multiple sites and locations as needed.
  • Inform program case managers of barriers for refugee families and Houston-area school staff
  • Develop school-related educational resources, guides, handouts, and presentations
  • Conduct in-service trainings to school staff on the refugee community and its needs
  • Conduct real time data entry into data management system, maintain confidential files, document participant progress and prepare progress reports.
  • Actively participate in team meetings with the case management team
  • Perform other duties as assigned including occasional food distribution and airport pickup of new arrivals.
  • Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follow mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
  • Meet timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Examples include Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets.

Annual Outcomes and Indicators

Depending on yearly performance goals, the School Liaison is responsible for:

  • Leading group parent orientations for 100 participants
  • Leading in-service trainings for 80 school staff members
  • Build partnerships with at least 10 local schools
  • Complete 100 school enrollments for YMCA International clients every year

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of work experience in education
  • Cultural awareness, sensitivity, and cultural competency
  • Experience with and passion for working with diverse populations
  • Experience working with community members and community partners
  • Team player who is highly self-motivated, flexible, creative, and responsive
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to efficiently manage time and meet competing demands
  • Flexible schedule to meet school staff and client needs
  • Fluency in a refugee language preferred, but not required
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Suite, databases, and office equipment
  • Valid Texas driver’s license, clean driving record, own transportation, applicable auto insurance.
