YMCA of Greater Houston is Hiring an Outreach Program Manager- The Y on the Fly Near Houston, TX

Position Summary:

YMCA of Greater Houston Youth Development Outreach Program Manager supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position assists with the implementation of high quality YMCA community outreach program(s) focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility throughout the Greater Houston area. The Community Outreach Program Manager will create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while building community with families through a sense of belonging and connection. The position will be responsible for providing assistance with leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of The Y on the Fly programming that is heavily focused on STEM and sports, and delivered to youth through mobile van units. 

YMCA Community Outreach Program Manager builds and maintain strong relationships with families, community and assist with delivering programs focused on youth development, basic needs support, and senior engagement activities in apartment complexes and/or community centers. Ensures all programs are in compliance with YMCA outreach standards and contributes to the execution of new program initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  1. Program Quality: Assist with the coordination of high-quality community outreach programs for assigned location(s), in adherence to Y program model, curriculum and quality standards. Implements community outreach programs that may include food distribution, food pantries, enrichment programs, support services referrals and opportunity centers.
  2. Program Compliance: Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and risk management policies are followed.
  3. Program Planning & Innovation: Assist Program Director in planning, organizing, and implementing age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities Fosters innovation by recognizing and sharing new and relevant ideas.
  4. Marketing & Promotion: Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information and schedule program registrations.
  5. Community Engagement: Implements community outreach programs that may include food distribution, food pantries, enrichment programs and community opportunity sites.
  6. Center Engagement: Intentionally collaborates with center program staff. Develop and maintain good working relationships with the directors, staff, parents and families by way of open communication, positive problem solving, flexibility, and teamwork.
  7. Relationship Building: Develops and maintains strong relationships with community partners, parent and community groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
  8. Program Evaluation: Collects necessary qualitative and quantitative data needed to monitor program evaluation and measure program effectiveness.
  9. Annual Campaign: Participates in the annual fundraising campaign and committees as assigned at the center and meets staff campaign goals. Supports direct staff in their participation in the annual fundraising campaign.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Available for trainings on occasional weekends and after hours

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, and/or feel objects, tools, and/or controls. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Possess adequate vision and hearing to safely monitor environment and effective communicate with members.

The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions during the day camp program. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is occasionally exposed to nature, animals, fumes and airborne particles, toxic, or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and/or blood. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local between assigned centers during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

HOURS

Flexible with scheduling and available to work operational hours of the YMCA, which may include day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays, based on the center needs.
