YMCA Of Greater Hartford is Hiring a Bell Instructional Coach Near East Hartford, CT

Under the general direction of the Program Coordinator, the Instructional Coach works for the YMCA of Greater Hartford and is responsible for the development, coordination, planning, administration, supervision, and delivery of the Hip & Fit and Y BELL PSA programs.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Directs all aspects of the Child Development programming, including supervision, coordination, promotion, parent relation, school relations, curriculum, scheduling, enrollment, and evaluation.
  • With assistance from the Program Coordinator, develop the objectives for the site.
  • Trains, supervises, mentors, and evaluates all staff.
  • Knowledge of YMCA of Greater Hartford procedures, rules, regulations, and guidelines, and Branch regulations.
  • Responsible for inventory, and delivery of all program supplies.
  • Insures all program operation is consistent with Association procedures, including emergency procedures, insurance, accidents, purchasing, personnel, and accounting system.
  • Develops resources to expand program and enhance family involvement.
  • Enlists, trains, and assigns volunteers and recognizes their contribution to Branch objectives.
  • Works closely with local school systems, administrators, principals, and teachers to assure smooth operations of program services, utilization of resources and proper communications.
  • Insures quality supervision and safety of all aspects of program at designated site through development and implementation of handbooks pick up and drop off policies, background checks on all staff and use of National YMCA Child Care Guidelines for all programs. Maintains all necessary DCF regulations for youth programs and licensing requirements in conjunction with Association Guidelines.
  • Insures all youth programs meet established goals of YMCA youth programming and include values, positive lifestyle development, and knowledge of skills education and provide significant role models and examples for children to pattern.
  • Monitors all department programs and services through regular visitation of outreach sties and the development of appropriate evaluation tools.
  • Participates accordingly in such projects as assigned as well as staff training’s and meetings, product groups and special events. Supports all Invest in Youth and United Way events.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree including a CT teaching certification certificate.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervising, mentoring, training and leading child care at least 10 Full/Part Time Staff as well as at least 2 years’ experience in classroom teaching in the field.
  • The candidate should have experience in developing, organizing, promoting, and directing child care programs and services for children aged 5-12 years of age. YMCA experience preferred.
  • Bring to this position maturity, responsibility, and a sincere interest in working with people.
  • Have very strong interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Possess a general knowledge and understanding of the YMCA, its goals, and its mission.
  • The candidate must have knowledge of various resources for programming ideas and the skills to utilize that information in directing daily activities.
  • This position will function as a key member of the total team in developing community relations, lay committees and long range planning, as well as the interpretations of YMCA programming to the public.
  • The candidate must have the ability to multi task in a fast paced environment.
  • Candidate will be required to be fingerprinted and have background checks conducted by the YMCA and the state.
  • Obtain CPR, AED, and Standard First Aid within 30 days of hire and maintain current certification.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to supervise children by sight and sound at all times.
  • Ability to move quickly to react to safety issues in the setting (i.e. climbing, aggressive behavior).
  • Ability to remain calm, objective and respectful in potentially stressful situations (i.e. crying upset child, upset parent, or upset staff).
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to adjust to change.
  • Ability to move around the room to assist children and supervise children with daily activities, social interaction, physical and emotional needs.
  • Ability to lift young children and objects (food baskets and supplies) up to @ 40 lbs.
  • Ability to develop and foster cooperative relationships.
  • The ability to use hands, fingers, and arms as well as be able to talk and hear.
  • The ability to move from program site to branch and is required to enter all YMCA environments including, program space, buses, schools, pools, and program area.
