Englewood, Eaton, Germantown, New Lebanon, Stillwater, Vandalia
Part-Time/Non-Exempt
$25-$30/Hour
Y School Age programming is held in several school districts. This position is open to Certified teachers who are currently employed and maintain employment in a hosting school district.
Position Summary:
Responsible for planning, development, and implementation of classrooms activities. The Academic Teacher is responsible for ensuring the children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental well-being in the program. Safety and the wellbeing of the children is a first priority.

Essential Functions:
  • Implements weekly lesson plans that fit the children’s needs, interests, and developmental levels in the classroom.
  • Assist children with homework and other academic activities.
  • Works cooperatively with staff and partners YMCA leadership and other classroom staff.
  • Documents attendance, absenteeism, transitions, minor disciplines, and incidents for each child in the classroom and communicates to ensure children are accounted for.
  • Is responsible for all aspects of the appearance and management of their classroom/designated program/outside areas. Maintains the quality of supplies, materials, and equipment in the room in a neat and orderly fashion. Returns used spaces better than found.
  • Reports any broken or unsafe toys or equipment and properly disinfects materials and equipment on a regular basis in accordance with the state regulations.
  • Conducts the program in accordance with Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) guidelines & corresponding Ohio Department of Education (ODE) guidelines.
  • Attends in-service training events as required by Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) regulations, continued professional development through community involvement, reading and/or further education.
  • Remains familiar with the National After School Association (NAA) accreditation requirements and completes required documentation in accordance with Center requirements.
  • Effectively communicates verbal and written reports to the parents and conducts parent/teacher conferences in accordance with Center guidelines.
  • Possesses working knowledge of child abuse and neglect laws and follows proper reporting procedures.
  • Handles discipline promptly and in accordance with the stated discipline policy. Documents and reports to the supervisor any special needs or problems of an individual child, staff, or parent.
  • Monitors and assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the childcare and program area.
  • Maintains appropriate adult/child ratio.
  • Communicates to direct supervisor any concerns, needed repairs, or incidents that may need follow-up.
  • Completes and maintains appropriate records, including incident reports, administration of medication, health history, etc.
  • Protects confidential information regarding program participants, families, and staff members.
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and possess high school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college or university required.
  • Must be a Certified Teacher for the State of Ohio.
  • Two years’ experience working in childhood field strongly preferred.
