POSITION SUMMARY:

The Regional Wellness Experience Director (under the supervision of the Sr. Regional Wellness Experience Director) is a charismatic, high-energy, service-driven leader responsible for successfully guiding all branch membership efforts through wellness including retention, excellent service, and growth. Wellness Directors are visible, frontline leaders who primarily work on their feet modeling best practices and building member loyalty. They are assertive coaches who consistently groom their team to deliver both an exceptional member experience and targeted organizational results. They are strong communicators who are able to listen effectively and speak to the heart of what matters most to members and employees. Wellness Directors are capable project managers who are able to quickly switch gears back and forth between front line service and implementation of strategic initiatives. Both the Wellness Director and their team build strong relationships with staff, members and program participants to optimize their Y experience and create a “third place” where they feel welcomed and engaged. They are primarily responsible to ensure that all members are given support and encouragement in the pursuit of their personal wellness journey, encouraging family involvement, and creating value for membership. Wellness Directors implement and execute daily processes with the heart of “helping all people reach their God-given potential in spirit, mind and body.”

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Member Service & Retention: 50%

  1. Executes assigned Association-wide and branch-specific membership strategies/tactics to boost membership retention, customer service, and growth.
  2. Leads excellent group exercise services.
  3. Implements retention plan making sure member goals are being met.
  4. Utilizes membership and quality data as needed to identify areas of opportunity and areas of improvement, encouraging participation, and eliminating barriers.
  5. Improves the total member experience by ensuring that members are on-boarded correctly, have strong social supports and are involved in relevant Y programming. Help members identify and track healthy living goals.

Daily or Shift Operations Management: 20%

  1. Serves as operations manager for the Jerry Long, Yadkin, Davie locations.
  2. Engages- and leads other staff to engage- current and potential members with an emphasis on daily Moments of Service such as greeting every member in all areas of the building.
  3. Ensures that all staff has a strong working knowledge of group exercise and are eager to connect current and potential members with programming that helps them reach their God-given potential.
  4. Perform all other duties as assigned and directed by management.

Department Management: 20%

  1. Leads all aspects of a highly efficient and effective member focused team of Group Exercise staff including but not limited to recruiting, hiring, training, role-playing, staff schedule, GRIT schedule and developing and holding staff accountable on a daily basis.
  2. Provides strong fiscal management in all areas of responsibility including building and managing the budget within their area of functional responsibility, receiving funds, spending wisely, and taking corrective action as appropriate.
  3. Directly supervises Group Exercise staff. Responsible for scheduling (Group Ex Pro), payroll, and staff meetings, as well as ongoing communication with staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, role-playing, modeling, appraising performance and taking corrective action, if necessary; addressing employee complaints and resolving issues.

Subject Matter Expert: 10%

  1. Serves as a subject matter expert to help members meet specific health and wellness goals.
  2. Trains and advises other engagement directors and staff in specialty area as needed.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university preferred; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or related degree strongly preferred.
  • One or more nationally recognized Training or Coaching certifications required.
  • One to two years of experience supervising other wellness professionals preferred.
  • One to two years of related supervisory experience in customer service and/or sales, preferred.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed to supervise a diverse part-time team working a variety of schedules. Some will be scheduled to work weekends and nights.
  • Excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving skills required. Proven ability to coach staff in these areas preferred.
  • Strong communication and project management skills, plus an ability to manage multiple demands with ease.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments
    of the community.
  • Spanish-speaking skills a plus.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred
