YMCA - CHARLOTTE is Hiring a Spanish Classes for Adults Teacher: Harris YMCA Near Charlotte, NC

Under the direction of the Community Development Director and Spanish Classes for Adults Coordinator, and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, this position is responsible for the curriculum development (where required), lesson planning, and teaching of the Spanish Classes for Adults classes. The teacher will also be responsible for the development and implementation of all classroom activities and assessment of the students, following the guidelines agreed upon by the teacher and coordinator. The Spanish Classes for Adults Teacher is responsible for enriching the adult student’s social, physical, emotional, intellectual, and mental development in the program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Teach, develop the curriculum (where required), and prepare lesson plans for the Spanish Classes for Adults classes.
  • Be responsible for the supervision, safety, and well-being of the Spanish Classes for Adults program participants.
  • Carry out the lesson plans, following the guidelines agreed upon by the teacher and Spanish Classes for Adults Coordinator, and communicating concerns to the Spanish Classes for Adults Coordinator as needed.
  • Actively participate in all activities.
  • Take attendance of Spanish Classes for Adults students, and notify Spanish Classes for Adults Coordinator of any several day absences.
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings.
  • Uphold facility maintenance and cleanliness standards.
  • Work with volunteers, clearly communicating needs, to utilize in program (where required).
  • Ensure proper set up and break down of assigned rooms on a daily basis, and maintain a neat and clean appearance of room including equipment and supplies.
  • Present quality image through staff attire and interaction with other YMCA employees, volunteers and membership.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-year college degree; Bachelor’s degree, preferred
  • Native or near native Spanish speaker.
  • Prior experience in teaching Spanish or equivalent university preparation.
  • Knowledge in theories of language acquisition.
  • Must be able to communicate well with students, staff and volunteers, be a team player, and have strong and collaborative leadership skills.
  • Must be able to relate well with students and always promote and environment conducive to learning.
  • General knowledge of YMCA programs, philosophies, and objectives.
  • Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner.
  • Understand and uphold Christian ethics and their relationship to YMCA philosophies.
  • Will acquire CPR/First Aid Certification within thirty days of employment.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Ability to work irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends on occasion.
  • Fluent in English, written and verbal communication.
