Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director and in accordance with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Safety Around Water Team Leader is responsible for coordinating and supervising operations of the community water safety initiative according to YMCA of Greater Charlotte Quality Standards and YUSA guidelines.

Principal Activities:

• Provide day-to-day supervision of the Safety Around Water program including scheduling, supervision and evaluation of lifeguards/Swim instructors
• Ensures association quality standards are met during the hours the Safety Around Water program is being offered
• Leader coordinates and supervises all operations of the Safety Around Water community water safety initiative
•  Maintains records, ensures proper pool safety, teaches lessons, and lifeguards as necessary
• Communicates and coordinates with the apartment managers about scheduling, pool maintenance, curriculum and upcoming events
• Leads weekly in-services for the Safety Around Water Staff Team
• Establishes strong relationships/rapport with apartment complex managers
• Carries out additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements:

• Must be 21 years of age or older
• YMCA Lifeguard Certification or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross Lifeguards must successfully complete a crossover course to YMCA Lifeguard within 60 days of employment and must maintain YMCA certification)
• Must have at least two years of swim instruction experience
• Must successfully complete, and maintain current certification, as a YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (24 hours) prior to teaching alone or within 90 days if a current Red Cross Swim Instructor
• Current status in the following certifications, to be renewed annually: Professional Level CPR, First Aid, Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), Oxygen Administration

• Must complete the following trainings before working first shift and are to be renewed annually: Blood Borne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention.
• Must complete YMCA of Greater Charlotte New Staff Connection prior to employment
• Must complete I Create Loyalty Training within 30 days of hire
• Must successfully complete at least 4 hours teaching under the direct supervision of an Aquatics Director/Coordinator or an experienced instructor before leading a class independently
• Must demonstrate the ability to teach water safety curriculum and the development of basic swimming skills
• Must be able to teach, lead others and effectively communicate with participants and their parents
• Remain alert with no lapses in consciousness
