Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director/Coordinator and in accordance with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Opening/Closing Lifeguard is responsible for all additional opening and/or closing pool responsibilities as well as ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies and for assisting the Aquatics Director/Coordinator in recruiting, training, and supervising lifeguard staff and in managing Aquatics programming and facilities.

Principal Activities:

• Responsible for all additional Opening and/or Closing pool duties
• Responsible for the safety of facility patrons
• Enforce all of the facility’s policies, rules, and regulations
• Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies
• Responds to patron inquiries and concerns and provides Branch information as needed
• Inspects the aquatic facility on a daily schedule and report unsafe conditions and equipment to supervisor
• Completes records and reports regarding the following: hourly patron attendance, water chemistry, incidents and accidents
• Responsible for new lifeguard staff orientation
• Responsible for rentals and for aquatic facility use during special events and after hour activities
• Assist Aquatics Director/Coordinator in overseeing and maintaining facilities, equipment, and supplies
• Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements:

• Must have graduated from High School or completed GED
• Minimum of three (3) years lifeguarding experience or relevant staff management experience
• Minimum of one (1) year experience with YMCA or similar organization
• YMCA Lifeguard Certification or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross Lifeguards must successfully complete a crossover course to YMCA Lifeguard within 60 days of employment and must maintain YMCA certification)
• Current status in the following certifications, to be renewed annually: 
• Professional Level CPR
• First Aid
• Automatic External Defibrillator(AED)
• Oxygen Administration

Must complete the following trainings before working first shift and are to be renewed annually: 

• Blood Borne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention
• Must complete YMCA of Greater Charlotte New Staff Connection prior to employment
• Must complete I Create Loyalty Training within 30 days of hire
• Must present a professional, mature image, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills
