YMCA - CHARLOTTE is Hiring a Best Buy Teen Tech Center Counselor: McCrorey YMCA Near Charlotte, NC

Under the direction and daily supervision of the Best Buy Teen Tech Center Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Best Buy Teen Tech Center counselor will be responsible for the supervision, behavior management and programming of the participants in the Best Buy Teen Tech Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·Plan and implement program plans that are fun, challenging, creative and age appropriate. 

·Responsible for the safety of the teens while in the center.

·Facilitate and monitor online safety including: privacy education,help teach to participating children the dangers of sharing their Personal Information, including examples of social media sites, advertising, and email solicitations for Personal Information (“phishing”). Instruct the children that they should not include any Personal Information in their postings to any website, blog, or Facebook page, and they should not submit Personal Information if surfing the Internet at the Best Buy Teen Tech Center.

·Assist Director with daily record keeping of attendance and adherence to all guidelines.

·Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required by the program.

·Assist in the daily cleaning and maintenance of the space and/or technology to maintain quality standards.

·Control and maintain supplies and inventory.

·Maintain positive relationships and open, positive communication with teens, YMCA personnel and administration.

·Assist staff in achieving program goals and operational standards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·High school diploma, or equivalent.

·Minimum 18 years of age.

·Well-versed with technology, social media, and computer systems, with a desire to learn more as necessary.

·Comfort assisting with administrative duties.

·Interest in children/teenagers and significant evidence of emotional maturity, good moral character, judgment, integrity and leadership capability.

·Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.

·Obtain safety certifications and all trainings and certifications in accordance with the Quality Standards within required timeframe.

·Desire to learn and apply experiences as necessary.

·Strong interpersonal skills to communicate in a positive manner with members, participants and staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·Minimum one year of college education, college degree in a related field

·Supervisory experience

·Experience facilitating youth programming

·Ongoing training certifications related to technology and/or arts

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

·Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.

·Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.

·Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.

·Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.

·Ability to work irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends on occasion.

·Fluent in English, written and verbal communication.
