Position Summary

Yew Chung International School of Silicon Valley, a private English/Mandarin bilingual school located in Mountain View, California. We are seeking passionate, responsible and experienced teacher assistants for grades K-6 for the YCIS Summer Camp program, which is a Chinese-immersion theme-based program. The program includes Chinese language, arts & crafts, drama, science, and various hands-on activities.

Camp Dates:

session1: June 17th - June 28th

session2: July 1st – July 12th (no work on 7/4)

session3: July 15th – July 26th

You are welcome to work for 1 or more sessions.

Working Schedule:

8 hours per day, from 9:00 am – 5:30 pm, Monday-Friday, with 1/2-hour unpaid lunch break and paid prep time preparing for activities.

Pay Rate:

Teacher Assistants: $29/hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Plan and lead one or two outdoor games/activities daily.

· Plan and instruct after school activities including arts and crafts, stories, sports, games, etc.

· Work independently for outdoor activities, recess supervision, after school activities

· Assist teachers and students with camp activities

· Be responsible for maintaining the physical and emotional safety of the students.

· Use a positive discipline and guidance approach to behavior management, encouraging children to develop confidence in personal and social skills.

· Prepare and organize materials for teaching and learning.

· Take pictures or videos of daily activities and upload to central folders

· Alert to and understand health and safety matters. Help to maintain a clean and sanitary classroom.

Skills, Abilities and Knowledge Requirements

· Mandarin speaker with a strong set of communication and interpersonal skills.

· A strong commitment to teamwork and to developing and maintaining a cooperative and collaborative working relationship with other camp teachers.

· Good communication, problem solving, and priority setting skills as well as maintaining an overall positive and professional attitude /disposition.

· Proven ability to establish a positive and healthy relationship with students and parents

· A warm and friendly personality; patient and respectful; sensitive to the feelings and needs of others; able to adapt and be flexible

Education and Experience Requirements

· At least 1 year working experience in preschool, school or after school setting.

· AA or higher degree in Education or related field.

· Summer camp working experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

· spend most of the day standing in the classroom. While standing, the teacher will frequently hold light objects they are working and demonstrating, etc. and must walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks, etc.

· supervise playground duty, involving walking on even and uneven surfaces and assisting elementary-aged students on play structures.

· move classroom furniture to change the layout of the classroom to positively influence the learning environment.

· occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

· maintain high emotional energy and display enthusiasm for the subject matter and individual student effort.
