Yen Press, LLC is Hiring a Yen Press Editorial Assistant (manga) Near New York, NY

SUMMARY:

Yen Press, one of the largest publishers of manga, manhwa, light novels, and original graphic novels in the North American market, is seeking Editorial Assistants to help manage its rapidly growing list of manga. The Editorial Assistant will be responsible for providing editorial and administrative support to the manga editorial teams. Japanese language skills is a must.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enter Editorial and Copyediting changes into InDesign files
  • Write and correct back cover and catalog copy
  • Contribute to Editorial passes on pending manuscripts
  • Coordinate delivery of materials to Managing Editorial and Production as per scheduled deadlines
  • Coordinate with licensors on receipt and approvals of materials
  • Traffic editorial projects through Production and Copyediting
  • Maintain the accuracy of metadata in essential systems
  • Perform administrative duties, including: photocopying, sorting mail, filing, directing/responding to phone calls, etc.
  • Interact with Sales and Distribution, attend sales conferences, trade shows, and conventions, providing support as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in manga and light novels
  • Bachelor’s degree in English preferred
  • Japanese language skills required; JLPT Level 3 or above a must
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Keen eye for detail with a strong desire to learn and improve
  • An ability to attend to details and juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Solid computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Adobe Suite (particularly InDesign) and databases
  • Excellent writing ability with a polished ear for dialogue
  • Polished communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in the publishing industry including internships a plus
