Overview:

You will fully participate in a collaborative and creative treatment environment with psychiatrists, physicians, licensed therapists, nurses, and psychiatric technicians. The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible, and accountable, for the nursing care received by patients. This position is responsible for leading and supervising nursing staff. Reporting to the CEO, the DON receives direction from the Medical Director. The DON will ensure patient care excellence and standards of care. In addition, the Director of Nursing will ensure policy and procedures are followed and implement new policies and procedures when indicated. This position is responsible for staffing the nursing personnel related to absences, time off, and vacant positions. Ongoing staff development and performance reviews will fall under the purview of this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with nurses, therapists, counselors, behavioral health technicians, clinical director, medical director, COO, and the CEO in policy formation, program goals and objectives, program planning, and performance improvement.
  • Demonstrates, promotes, and role models leadership behaviors and organizational values.
  • Leads and participates in departmental and facility performance improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve care, safety, service, and efficiency, making recommendations and implementing improvement opportunities as appropriate.
  • Conducts monthly chart audits.
  • Conducts monthly surveillance rounds.
  • Submits quarterly reports for department-based audits.
  • Assists with collection of data for performance improvement initiatives.
  • Uses evidence-based metrics to align the organization's goals and objectives with patient outcomes.
  • Makes timely decisions.
  • Delegates appropriately.
  • Reviews Policies and Procedures and provides feedback/revisions to CEO.
  • Responsible for Infection Control oversight by evaluating the adherence of policies and procedures. Responsible for reporting discrepancies identified in Infection Control Monitoring to the CEO/COO and following through with corrective action in the areas of discrepancies.
  • Participates in Joint Commission and State compliance activities.
  • Collaborates with the Leadership Team in planning and implementing educational programs to meet identified needs.
  • Interviews and ensures nurses are trained appropriately and demonstrate required competencies.
  • Makes monthly staff schedules. Communicates schedule effectively with all staff. Adjusts staffing to ensure appropriate staffing ratios.
  • Approves schedule changes and requests for vacation / sick time, and other time off.
  • Monitors staff attendance and timeliness.
  • Ensures a just culture of accountability.
  • Coordinates with the COO/CEO in reviewing staff timecards for payroll pre-processing to ensure employees are working as scheduled and are clocking in and out according to policy and procedure. Follows up with staff as needed regarding violations of payroll policy and procedure as well any unapproved schedule changes.
  • Divides time between office and residential facilities.
  • Checks stock of over-the-counter (OTC) and prescribed medications to ensure they are not expired, and reorders as needed.
  • Reviews medication errors with staff and ensures Medication Error Reports are completed.
  • Evaluates and documents job performance of employees and takes appropriate action.
  • Oversees staff training and education.
  • Communicates relevant information to staff .
  • Evaluates workload for nursing staff and adjusts as needed.
  • Monitors facility safety and works with nursing staff to produce a safe environment.
  • Ensures adequate inventory of supplies is maintained and enters on inventory sheet for ordering.
  • Attends mandatory staff meetings, in-services, and staff development activities as scheduled.
  • Conducts monthly nurses’ meetings.
  • Represents patient care issues to the COO and CEO.
  • Develops and fosters relationships across the organization to build alliances and partnerships to achieve common goals.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO.

Qualifications:

  • Current, active CA RN or LVN license
  • Must have at least one year in an acute setting
  • Minimum of two years freedom from chemical use problems
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of the principles and processes of substance use disorder treatment
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Understanding of how to use current healthcare technology, such as electronic record-keeping software
