Yavapai County Government is Hiring a Detention Officer I (Temporary) - YCSO (Countywide) Near Prescott, AZ

JOB
Under general supervision, provides for the care, custody, and control of inmates.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Observes, controls, and supervises inmate activities. Maintains the safety and physical security of the facility, personnel, and inmates. Physically escorts inmates by vehicle or on foot. Processes inmate bookings and releases and maintains other Detention Records. Performs physical search of inmates and facility. Conducts inventories of detention facility supplies.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: Principles and practices of detention.Principles of human behavior.Functions of the criminal justice system, restraint procedures, and court proceedings. Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.Clerical office practices and procedures.Research techniques and report writing.Current Microsoft Office software.Filing and recordkeeping.Skill in: Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.Organization and adherence to detail.Ability to: Observe or monitor objects, data, and/or behavior to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards.Analyze, detect, and resolve problems.Follow written and verbal instructions.Respond to emergencies or stressful situations calmly, quickly, and decisively. Work rotating shifts.Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties. Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.Work Environment: The work environment is associated with a detainment facility and includes exposure to loud noise, bloodborne pathogens, dust, fumes, and chemicals.Physical Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability balance, climb, kneel, bend, crouch, and to lift and carry up to 100 pounds. Performs work that requires good physical strength and condition to apply restraining techniques, defensive tactics, react to physical confrontations and emergency situations, may lift and/or carry people, supplies, equipment and/or other heavy, bulky items. May be required to physically restrain persons and effectively deal with stressful and potentially life-threatening emergency situations.Additional Job Information: FLSA: Non-Exempt Grade: 9Classification: Classified Safety Sensitive: Yes
