What You Will Be DoingAs a Heavy Equipment ThinkBIG Intern, you will be enrolled in a two-year specialized program alternating every eight weeks between South Georgia Technical College and your sponsoring Yancey Bros. Co. branch. Students learn how to work with Diesel, Electronics, and Hydraulics in the classroom and then get the opportunity to put those new found skills to work in a real working environment at their local branch.
Upon graduating, students earn an Associate Degree in Applied Technology from South Georgia Technical College, have two years of experience with Yancey Bros. Co., and could have the opportunity to immediately transfer over as a full time employee, working in the field of their dreams. Career paths can include achieving top level skills as a shop or field service technician, leadership, sales, product support, and dozens of other positions.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities, And Key Accountabilities
  • Maintain ‘B’ average in all classes assigned at the college.
  • Maintain ‘Meets Expectations’ in Conduct/Appearance/Work Ethic score provide on transcript.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate in required safety programs, and working in a safe manner.
Education/Experience
  • The knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED.
Required Qualifications/Skills
  • Meet admission requirements to attend South Georgia Technical College.
  • Have mechanical aptitude and enjoy challenging ‘hands-on’ work.
  • Enjoy a fast paced work environment.
  • Have good work habits (shown by achieving acceptable grades and attendance in High School).
EnvironmentEnvironmental Job Requirements:
  • Most of your time is spent standing/walking
  • Willing to work in extreme weather conditions and around loud noises
Physical
  • Will require appropriate Personal Protection Equipment to be worn
  • Able to operate and climb underneath equipment for inspections
Travel
  • No travel required for the position. Travel to and from SGTC will be the responsibility of the student.
Who We Are Looking ForTo be successful in this position you will need to have the desire and skill to work with mechanical concepts, enjoy ‘hands-on’ challenging work, and enjoy working in a fast paced environment. You will should have good work habits and the willingness to learn. A typical candidate may have completed ‘mechanical skill based’ classes such as Automotive while in High School or worked on cars / trucks / ATV’s / motorcycles. Experience working with hand tools, enjoying working with your hands, and taking apart / properly putting things back together would be characteristic of the ideal candidate.
