Yale New Haven Health is Hiring a School Health Aide - Thames River Magnet School Near Waterford, CT

Provides supportive paraprofessional and clerical duties related to the school program, under the supervision of the School Nurse or Supervisor of School Nursing.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Schedule, perform, or assist in completion of vision and hearing screenings. Assist in scoliosis screenings.
  • 2. Accurately maintain, review, record, file and update school health records and use of computer management.
  • 3. Maintain health room supplies, inventory, and equipment. Maintain organization and cleanliness of health room.
  • 4. Document daily activities and statistics.
  • 5. Notify parents of students regarding absence, illness, or injury.
  • 6. Consult with school nurse or Supervisor of School Nursing for instruction and clarification of responsibilities.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or equivalent. Able to read, write, carry out directions, and keep simple records. Satisfactory completion of CPR and First Aid and biennial recertification. Accurately take and record temperature, pulse and function under minimal supervision. Ability to communicate with students, school personnel and parents. Knowledge of computers.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Medium to heavy work. Constant handling of under 10 pounds to occasional handling of 70 pounds. Standing, walking and handling are performed on a constant basis. Sitting, carrying, bending lifting/lowering, pushing/pulling with whole body and with exerted up to 70 pounds for client weighing up to 220 pounds in height range of 15-36 inches. Adequate vision and hearing to carry out assigned duties.

This position is temporary and expected to end on or around June 30, 2024 with the expiration of the school-based nursing contract
