The Lactation Coordinator is a RN certified in Lactation and is a role model in patient education and support. Working collaboratively with the health care team, she will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for nursing mothers, guide and develop program for nursing personnel, collaborate with health care professionals, coordinate program activities and demonstrate professional growth and development.

Watches for clues that patients or visitors require assistance. Asks, -May I help you?- Escorts them to their destination, if necessary.

12. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient-s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient-s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's / area's / department's policies and procedures

Qualifications
EDUCATION
Appropriate combination of : RN, BSN or demonstrated experience and skillNursing Certification in Lactation (IBCLC)
EXPERIENCE
2-3 years clinical experience in specialty area
LICENSURE
RN in State of Connecticut; IBCLC certified RN :
SPECIAL SKILLS
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Moderate stress from coordinating and supervising program. Standing / walking, frequent bending, reaching, stooping, squatting positions.
Helps lift heavy objects and patients ranging from five (5) to three hundred (300) pounds. May be exposure to infectious diseases.
