Job Summary:
The Brewer’s role is that of a creative and disciplined technical staff member at YCH. The Brewer is responsible for brewing, monitoring the conditioning process, and maintaining the brewery as well as taproom equipment at YCH campuses. They will collaborate with R&D and the head of Brewing Innovations to contribute to the R&D team’s efforts, but most of the Brewer’s time will be focused directly on maintaining the YCH brewery. Ongoing projects include regular brewing in the YCH brewery for R&D projects, providing high quality beer for industry events, and performing brewing trials with customers. They will work closely with the YCH brewing team to execute trials and collaborations to drive the success of new products, experimental varieties, and the development of YCH brewing methods. The Brewer is expected to be a present and positive brand Ambassador for YCH, both on site and at industry events.
Job Duties:
1. Maintain the YCH Brewery and associated brewing spaces as clean, working, and in presentable order always.
• Associated brewing spaces include brewery storage areas, walk-in cooler, and brewery office space(s).
• All spaces should be clean, sanitary, free of debris and clutter.
2. Lead brewing efforts for YCH Brewing by:
• Brewing beer, monitoring fermentations, conditioning, beer transfers, and kegging/packaging according to established schedule.
• Coordinating with on-site R&D team for backup when needed.
• Ordering all parts, supplies, raw brewing materials and sanitation chemicals to maintain an operational brewhouse.
• Performing preventative maintenance and calibration checks and maintain records.
• Drafting and following Brewery Standard Operating Procedures.
• Collaborating with pertinent staff and stakeholders for brewing recipe design, sampling requirements, data collection, and timelines.
3. Always maintain organized and accessible records.
• Update brewery schedule daily.
• Preserve beer recipes, brew day documents, and conditioning logs.
4. Maintain YCH taproom dispensing equipment in clean and working order in both Yakima taprooms as well as Sunnyside’s.
• Train all pertinent staff in proper use and cleaning of taproom equipment.
• Establish preventative maintenance schedule for equipment.
• Work with YCH staff to provide beer to all locations.
5. Collaborate with the brewing team members on best practices for brewing procedures.
• Team members include but are not limited to: Research and Development Director, VP of Key Accounts and Brewing Innovations, Senior Sensory Manager, and the R&D team.
6. Collaborate with the HR Department to ensure beer needs for company events are met.
• Manage beer delivery to event location(s).
• Manage tap setup and troubleshooting.
• Provide custom YCH beers for events as needed.
• Clean and service any equipment used when returned.
7. Attending industry events as a brand ambassador of YCH. Present brewing trial data, company-oriented presentations, and perform other related duties as requested by management.
8. Attending select technical seminars and educational events as directed by management.
9. Ancillary duties as assigned by the YCH Executive Leadership Team.
10. Maintain sanitary and safe work environment and follow safety requirements.
11. May actively participate on the company’s Safety Committee.
12. Ensure that company safety policies as well as federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations are observed.
13. Must have a complete understanding of company’s policies, SOPs, QPs, EPs, HACCP and cGMP that pertain to their department to ensure quality, safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
14. Must adhere to all company policies.
15. Examine documents, materials, and products and monitor work processes to assess completeness, accuracy and conformance to standards and specifications.
16. Follow all SOPs in a given area.
17. Perform all other duties as assigned by Manager and/or designee.
