Lead RBT Job Description

Assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with acquiring, retaining, improving, and generalizing the behavioral, self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills necessary to function successfully in the home and community. Behavior Technicians will provide services directly to the youth in their homes using Positive Behavior Supports, instruction of Daily and Independent Living Skills.

Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Provides support in accordance with each person’s individualized service and behavior support plans, utilizing support skills for people with moderate to complex levels of need and implementing plans of protective oversight, as well Individual Behavior Support Plans (IBSPs)/ Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) for all people we support in a clean, safe and organized therapeutic environment.
  • Demonstrates and models professionalism and all skills of Direct Support Professional/Registered Behavior -Technician (DSP/RBT) with a person-centered and trauma-informed approach and provides coverage, regularly performing all direct care responsibilities as indicated in DSP/RBT job description, as needed.
  • Consults with program leadership, clinical staff, external consultants, community providers and other direct support staff to ensure streamlined and top-quality care for individuals and attends and actively participates in team meetings.
  • Assists Program Administrator with day-to-day oversight of residence and direct support staff, ensuring that DSP/RBTs perform tasks in accordance with all rules, regulations and agency policies; conducting ongoing observations and immediate corrective actions as needed; and reporting, tracking and escalating client and/or staff issues and concerns.
  • Ensures DSP/RBTs are consistently engaging and providing positive interactions as instructed by IPP/IBSP, promoting and ensuring person-centered activities that are consistent with IPP/IBSP daily.
  • Assists Program Administrator with scheduling and completes daily shift report indicating staffing schedules and assignments throughout shift; meets with incoming shift Lead(s) to discuss prior to leaving shift.
  • Ensures all new hires complete on-site orientation and trainings prior to being assigned to individual(s) being supported and monitors completion of required direct support staff trainings for all staff, reporting issues to Program Administrator.
  • Conducts weekly shift meetings with DSP/RBTs and Program Administrator.
  • Conducts daily documentation checks, reviewing IPPs and IBSPs, medication administration records (MARs), staff notes (including DA and Behavior Agent notes), communication log and structured leisure activities, to ensure compliance by DSP/RBT staff in recordkeeping, before shift’s end.
  • Reviews and ensures that all completed documents are uploaded to appropriate electronic systems records and files of the people we support and are filed accordingly.
  • Ensures accuracy of all e-billing, confirming completeness and quality of notes and addressing issues to ensure appropriate billing submissions.
  • Serves as Facility Manager for residence on assigned shifts with responsibility for conducting and accurately documenting all drills (emergency, fire, earthquake, etc.) and completing daily/weekly physical plant checks and water temperature log in accordance with Title 22, Title 17 and agency standards; uploads work orders to housing developer for maintenance issues, as needed.
  • Reviews vehicle maintenance log to ensure that all DSP/RBTs document vehicle maintenance.
  • Provides driver certification and training to DSP/RBTs including driving facility van to transport people we support and following checklist.
  • Completes all Incident reporting, including Special Incident Reports, according to regulations and makes all required notifications as per regulations; contacts necessary vendors for property damages and notifies Administrator.
  • Manages and accurately documents financial legers of the people we support.
  • Completes/ensures inventory of all food items and household supplies are completed and stored appropriately, as required per regulations.
  • Ensures DSP/RBTs assist individuals in ensuring sufficient supply of toiletries and assists in organizing their totes.
  • Inventories over-the-counter medications, controlled medications and reviews MAR daily before the end of each shift.
  • Complies with all Federal, State, Local and other relevant regulatory agency requirements, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Completes and maintains all necessary trainings based on program and position to ensure compliance with YAI policies and licensing regulations and applies skills.
  • Completes and maintains requirements for certification/license (RBT or LPT) and for all other required recertifications and trainings, as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements including education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essential physical capabilities (e.g. lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc.)

  • High school diploma or its educational equivalent;
  • At least one year of prior experience providing direct care to individuals with developmental disabilities with challenging behavior service needs;
  • Hold, or obtain within sixty (60) days of initial employment, certification as a Registered Behavior Technician and maintain for duration of assignment;
  • Be a Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) Qualified Behavior Modification Professional
  • Successful completion of Facility Manager Training within 30 days of appointment
  • Successful completion of State of California Direct Support Professional Training (DSPT) Year 1 and Year 2 courses within one year of appointment
  • Hold (or obtain through employer-provided training) CPR/First Aid, Ukeru and CPI certifications and recertify annually
  • Completion of annual continuing education units (CEUs) for professional development through competency-based training as required by Titles 17 & 22
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to meet essential physical demands of the position, including frequent walking, sitting, standing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching with hands and arms; use hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools, or controls; assisting with lifting/moving individuals of any weight with or without assistance of equipment and/or other staff; lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds on occasion; having the physical capacity to work with and implement emergency interventions as per the person’s Individual Behavior Support Plan and Individual Emergency Intervention Plan, if/as needed.
  • Flexibility, including with schedule and acceptance of coverage assignments, as required by program needs.

Preferred Qualification Requirements (desired_ requirements beyond MQRs above)_

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field
  • One or more years of supervisory experience in any field
  • Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), clinical syndromes and/or IDD with cooccurring behavioral/mental health needs
  • Knowledge of California’s Lanterman Act and Title 17 and 22 regulations.

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
